When the ASG was in Atlanta a few yearws ago, it was an absolute nightmare. They closed the mall because there were 65,000 people in it, and it was a slow sales day. Get out of town, take a vacation, you'll thank me later. THEY CLOSED DOWN THE MALL BECAUSE SOME GANGSTERS SHOT 3 PEOPLE IN THE PARKING LOT. TO ME, THAT'S A REALLY GOOD REASON TO CLOSE A MALL. In fact, Ms. Willis had been ripped off countless times before I got to her "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign. But to use the same basic imagery in the context of two sporting events not only in the same town, but in the same building shows a lack of creativity to say the least.Yes, we have had our differences in the past and interestingly enough, over this very logo. I believe you called me "over sensitive" and that may be true. I'm sensitive to not only the integrity of our firm and the quality of our work, but the context in which that work is shown.I'm not asking you to agree with me, you have made your position perfectly clear, but perhaps you can better understand my position. I understand that sometimes using a clear icon for a city (aka Statue of Liberty for anything NY) seems too obvious but sports fans like they're logos and identites very meat and potatoes.The NBA All-Star Las Vegas logomark is infuritating because first they selected a location the AFl had the balls to go to first, then they copied your selection of an icon and came up woefully short of bettering it. This very well could be the first time an athlete (an all-star no less) throws up on the field of play due to alcohol consumption.More money will be exchanged that weekend than at Wall Street the previous Friday.Strippers will make more than $100,000 for one weekend of work (and not just from the players; all of the corporate douchebags with the expense accounts will be there as well...although that guy from Savvis screwed it up for everyone with his American Express/Scores fiasco).FX or Spike should have a live cam 24/7 that weekend. Compelling television.I seriously cannot wait. THIS coming from a guy whose nickname is Blackjack.... coincidence? Gook catch on the basketball backdrop on the diamond lucky. I saw, I came, I left. I love that city.I had a good conversation with a friend of mine with the 51s, and he said that it is NOT hard to develop an icon or brand identity for something based in Las Vegas (whether it is a sports team or not).He said the XFL Outlaws touched on a completely under-used theme with the "Wild West." Obviously you cannot go with a gambling theme, but there had to been better ideas presented. Or maybe not, considering the lame font the NBA used.(For the record, the best gambling theme logo I have seen was Nitroseed's Atlantic City Heartbreakers logo a year or two ago. Vegas has established itself as a place to go to spend money and then spend more money. I'd bet that there wouldn't even be a noticable difference in the craziness in town, other than a bit more ESPN attention other than poker. Las Vegas is unlike any other cities in the country in terms of tourism and entertainment, a big sports game should fit in just fine.showgirls at an NBA event?? I think the NBA wants people to focus on the whole All Star weekend, not just the All Star game itself. That's my guess on not having 'game' on this logo.
