How come Martin Nance wasnt drafted? I was thinking round 2 to the Steelers, or third round at the latest.... Plus I like Greg Lee, he's still out there as well as Drew Olsen and Gerald Riggs Jr.

Some big UDFA's this year, just goers to show how great this draft appears to be.

I would prefer that he goes to Detroit, but.... That's my personal bias speaking.

I didn't know Detroit had an Arena team

Not anymore, the Fury folded after the 2004 season :P

I thought that as well, I was looking forward to seeing which team would draft him and for him to NOT EVEN get drafted? Teams must know something we don't.

BIGGEST NFL TEAM JOKE OF THE YEAR 2006 SO FAR.... DETROIT LIONS

(well theyve been like this the past ...fill in the blank...years, but this one is bad)

First off they handled this Harrington thing like typical Lions.. wrong. Then they sign King, Kitna, and McCown WAY TOO early. It would have made more sense for them to take Kitna yes, but too hold off until the Draft for their grooming QB. The thing with Joey is that EVERYONE knows hes gonna be released now so why would a team give anything for him, wasted opportunity. If they would have signed Kitna, had Joey on the roster with Orlovsky, nobody would have determined what they planned on doing.

Im sure they didnt think that Lienart was gonna be available at 9, but he was. And its not that I was enamored with Leinart, its just to have a player like that would finally give the Lions some kind of hope down the road. Im not too high on Ernie Simms (never saw him play), but to think that the Lions could have Kitna, Leinart, Orlovsky and traded Harrington on Draft day for at least a 4th - 5th rounder just blows my mind. The only way this can be considered the right move is that...

1) Kitna does what he does (2 years ago in Cincy)

2) McCown can prove to be the QB of the Lions future under Martz

3) Harrington just stinks it up anywhere he goes

4) and Lienart doesnt live up to his potential

And if those 4 things dont fall in place then its one more of those coulda been, woulda been typical Lions f-ups.

And if anyone has seen Ernie Simms play on a regular basis, please let me know what you think of him so I have some kind of hope for this lions draft class

I am new to the NFL and only started watching this year though i have one question

How the hell does this draft thing work? In football(soccer for you lot) we have a transfer window where players can move, but new young players comes through clubs academies. Why don't NFL teams do that.

Is it just ex-college players who can be signed?

What the hell is on the clock?

Do the players have any say in where they go. I only ask as BUsh didn't look like he wanted to go to NEw Orleans.

Also can a team have more than 1 pick per round.

And why do teams trade picks.

WIll all the picks be given contracts straight away

- A player is eligible for the draft if they've been out of high school for 3 years. Some players from other leagues can also be drafted.

- On the clock just means that it's a particular team's time to choose a player

- Players don't really have a say in where they go

- Teams can have multiple picks in a round by way of trades

- Teams trade picks in prior trades. But on draft day, a player may be offered, so that team will offer a pick in return(like the Javon Walker trade this year).

- Teams are allowed a limited amount of their salary cap to sign new rookies after the draft.

There's more to it than what I have here, but these are essentially the basics.

Jeez @ the Texans board

It's like a bad car wreck on the highway...you don't wanna look, but ya just can't help it..

Something tells me that a lot of knife drawers in the greater Houston area are gonna need padlocks for a little bit....

Normally, that's how we Jets fans react after a draft  ...well, this year, I don't have ANY complaints about the first round picks...D'Brick & Mangold are exactly what this team needed...Lineart would have been nice, but how effective is a QB gonna be when the likes of Rodney Harrison, Takeo Spikes, and Jason Taylor are dancing on his head repeatedly b/c the O-line's transparent?
