nwtrailtrekker Posted May 3, 2006 Share Posted May 3, 2006 I was just recently reading in the newspaper about my state's (Washington) quarter soon to be released, here is the designI like it, it seems a bit busy, but compared to the other two entries its definately the best. So i ask you, what has been your favorite State Quarter released thus far, design wise, also, if youre state has already released a quarter, are you satisfied with the design and the state icons featured on it? Jaybird Posted May 4, 2006 Share Posted May 4, 2006 All we got for Mississippi's quarter was a pile of magnolias, and in fact, we were the only state that did not have a state wide quarter design contest. I think the Mississippi Arts Commission had three designs drawn: the magnolias, one with the outline of the state with a magnolia, and one with a magnolia (the state flower) and the mockingbird (the state bird). Then-Governor Ronnie Musgrove chose the Magnolia one. Needless to say, a year or so later, he lost his bid for re-election to Haley Barbour.However, if you do get a hold of a Mississippi quarter, you will notice that each flower has six petals. The six petals make up the magnolia blossom, and these symbolize the nations or tribes that have ruled Mississippi and thus make up its history. (BTW, the 6 rulers are Native Americans, France, Spain, Great Britain, the Confederate States, and the United States). Atlanta Braves, please bring back the Indian Head logo.
