The Swamp Yankee
I really like that Utah one. However, I hate the Florida one. It just doesn't flow together. The best however would be Connecticut. It's very simple, yet looks real nice, and is a great chapter in CT history.
FiddySicks
Indiana's quarter is by far the sweetest. I mean come on, its got a freakin race car on it. How can you beat that? And suprisingly enough, Nevada has a pretty sweet state quarter. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) sc49erfan15
I like the Connecticut quarter as well, but I'm wondering how the dies didn't break every week with such an intricate design.
DrBear
*sigh* dead on on Wisconsin...this was a column I did in 2003 when the winning design was announced--"The slogan on Idaho's license plate is 'Famous Potatoes.' If you drove a $50,000 Mercedes, would you want a license plate on it that said 'Famous Potatoes?'" - Andy RooneyAnd if you're from Wisconsin, do you want people to carry a coin with your state's image as a cow? Apparently, many of us do - that was the winning design last week in an online poll. Truth to tell, none of the three designs really turned anybody on. The one of the deer and muskie in the countryside just reminded too many people of chronic wasting disease. Nobody really got excited about the one with the white guy selling the Indian a leaky canoe. And don't get the city folk riled up about cows. "Where's the new Calatrava Art Museum? Where's Frank Lloyd Wright? Where, for the love of Laverne and Shirley, is something that reflects Wisconsin today?" they asked. Well, nobody liked my idea - a coin with nothing on it, showing a Wisconsin landscape in January. But it's tough to single out something about Wisconsin. We have no Land of Lincoln, no great battles, no single industry. Oh, we could have stood out. Maybe a coin with the tourism department's number and the saying, "For a good time, call 1-800-432-TRIP." Or maybe a picture of a tollbooth and the slogan "Nothing like that here!" Or a picture of Minnesota. Half of the people on the coasts can't tell the difference anyway. It's hard for us to brag. Remember, this is the state that once had the defensive slogan, "We Like It Here!" We do. And at a conference last week in Green Bay, state business leaders and pols looked at what a Wisconsin brand could be like. Would it represent values? Business opportunites? Quality of life? Work ethic? All wonderful ideas that don't translate well to an inch in diameter. So we've got the frappin' cow and so on. The least they could have done is put some ginseng on there; that's one of our better exports, but you hear very little about it. But I'm sure it didn't fit. That's the problem with stereotypes - they're easy to shrink, because they come from small minds. Instead, if this opportunity comes around again, let's consider a blank coin with the inscription around the edge: "Wisconsin - whatever you want, it's here." dwboiler
As a hoosier, I am glad to see that Indiana is getting a pretty good response from our quarter. My favorites (other than IN) are:Massachusetts: and Georgia Also, I didn't see any horses when I was in Nevada. hrivnak
The Florida one is absolutely horrible from a design standpoint. Three randomly placed images. Yay. Great. (Note the sarcasm).I'm prefectly happy with (my state) Georgia's design. In fact, it's one of my favorites. I think they all should have required the state outline. rainmaker17
I don't get all the hatred for the Florida quarter. I see it as past meets future, with a galleon arriving as the space shuttle is departing. Not three 'random' images. The "gateway to discovery" tagline is fitting.
jkrdevil
First off let me say I haven't really seen any designs past the first 2 years of the program. When they first came out I was one that tried to get every one and see the designs and all of that. Past the second year I stopped caring. My state came out the first year and by the end of the second it became dragged out. That is why it was a dumb idea to do this program for 10 years. At this point I just want the Eagle back. That said here is what I think on the designs. First off any design that uses and outline of the state is disqualified from being considered a good design. Using the outline of the state is when there are no ideas that can stand on there own so the state must be used. I'm going with the homer pick, New Jersey. Here's why it is a famous image that everyone knows and knows what it means and why it is important. It is something that can stand alone with out the outline of the state in it. It isn't something that needs to be looked up like a guy riding a horse or a tree. A person sees it and immediatly thinks Washington crossing the Delaware. It also isn't something trivial it was an important event in american history.

KJTALBOT
I teased a friend from Mississippi and told him his state quarter looked like someone took a dump on the coin.I prefer the ones that aren't too busy with the exception of Wisconsin. How can you not love the Cow, Corn and Cheese? For Florida, I can imagine the explorers from the 1600's looking up and seeing the space shuttle? Huh? Anachronism.Ohio just blew it. Huge State outline with tiny icons. I'm sorry when I think of Ohio I don't think of an astronaut. (I'm aware of John Glenn). Everyone loves a roundel. Texasrangers13
Back to the Utah one... I am almost positive that is not the final design. There were 3 featured in the Salt Lake Tribune a while back and the other two were about ten times worse. Here are the other two...I like the mountains one, but Utah is NOT a diverse place, the world may be welcome but it is not a good slogan. The golden spike coin is funny too me because I accidently ran into the historical site yesterday (2 hours outside of salt lake in the middle of nowhere.) while looking for earth work art (the Spiral Jetty). The Spike site is interesting and two replica trains run daily with authentic 1800's looking people running the show. credit: Logodawg86
