Tom Reing
what was the first team to use green? Oakland? Why is that not a more popular color? It seems like up until the 50's nobody used green. Maybe Brooklyn at some point but nobody else. Arizona has some but it's an awful mix with purple. What gives?

Why bother with green when you can have some combination of red/white/blue that 80% of the teams use?But seriously, good question. Also, you forgot that the Devil Rays use it. Maybe that's why no one wants to touch it.
Brian in Boston
The title of this thread is a bit misleading. While I'll grant you that there aren't a great many teams amongst North American sports franchises that utilize Green as their primary/dominant color, there are still about a dozen teams that do so.Off the top of my head, I can think of...Boston Celtics (NBA)Dallas Stars (NHL)Edmonton Eskimos (CFL)Green Bay Packers (NFL)Milwaukee Bucks (NBA) - They've announced a return to a predominantly Green color scheme in time for next season.Minnesota Lynx (WNBA)Minnesota Wild (NHL)New York Jets (NFL)Oakland Athletics (MLB)Philadelphia Eagles (NFL)San Jose SaberCats (AFL)Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL)Seattle SuperSonics (NBA)Tampa Bay Devil Rays (MLB)

lilgump
Ironic that everyone forgot the GREEN bay packers.I dont know but green seems to maybe be a weird color that not everyone wants to wear, and doesnt match with a whole lot of things. You dont see alot of people on the street wearing green shirts, but alot of people wear blue/red.... Doesnt mean its not a good color to be used like green with blue=underrated The World Basketball Championship, the Davis Cup, Ryder Cup, Iraq: Every day there's further proof that we, as a nation, are not very good at international competition. Fred T. Jane
North Texas "Mean Green" This is an obvious choice Tulane GREEN Wave, Southeastern Louisiana, Michigan State, South Florida, Oregon Ducks, Miami Hurricanes, Ohio University, Marshall University, and many more! [Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008 Attention: In order to obtain maximum enjoyment from your stay at the CCSLC, the reader is advised that the above post may contain large amounts of sarcasm, dry humour, or statements which should not be taken in any true sort of seriousness. pcgd
Ironic that everyone forgot the GREEN bay packers. That's because the Green Bay Packers wore Navy and Gold until 1937 when, for the first time, they wore green. A couple years on and off they wore green, but mainly Navy Blue before Green went full time in 1959.(Thanks to Gothamite's website on that info)

Very astute. yeah...maybe if you're blind. I've never mistaken a Packer, an Eagle or a Jet for grass, and the A's and Rays wear white or gray jerseys most of the time. Adding to that, the other major professional green teams don't play on grass. By your logic, a hockey team wearing white jerseys would be hard to pick out from the white ice. Gothamite
what was the first team to use green? Oakland? Why is that not a more popular color?Actually, the green and gold predate the move to Oakland. They started wearing it in Kansas City in 1963.It seems like up until the 50's nobody used green. Maybe Brooklyn at some point but nobody else. Arizona has some but it's an awful mix with purple.Brooklyn used it for one season, 1937, before going back to Dodger blue.Arizona's color is teal, not green. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database!
