Uniform pet peeves

heh, the thread about what bothers folks about NBA uniforms got me thinkin...so this one has a similar tangent, but isn't restricted to basketball or the pros.

one thing i'm tired of seeing is from high school softball...seemingly every team around here that uses script lettering with an underscore/tail/flourish (or whatever it's called) feels the need to put either "SOFTBALL" or "FASTPITCH" on there. for example, the script says Broncos and then they put FASTPITCH on the underscore like somebody's gonna forget what sport they're playing. <_< oh right, this aint rugby. (no :censored:, sherlock)

you never see baseball teams doing this. look ladies, having "Broncos Fastpitch" on a t-shirt is fine, but not on your freaking game jersey :cursing: just the school or team name will suffice, thank you.

Adding a ball, puck, bat or what ever to the uniform or logo, excluding the mascot playing the sport.

too many vest jerseys in baseball...it's annoying.

I hate how NFL Reebok replica jersey sizes are inconsistently sized by team...my medium Patriots Willie McGinest jersey fits perfect while my medium Andre Davis Browns jersey is huge...CONSISTENCY PLEASE!

I hate how NBA Reebok replicas are too big...medium? try a large/XL...I gotta take a youth XL jersey for it to fit right!

That's probably one of the best and thought out rants! Maybe it's not for the players, but for the friends and relatives that come see them play... no they know what's going on. It's got to be the History teacher pulled in to coach softball due to lack of budget and really know one in the school cares about the team, so the teacher has to be reminded what sport they're coaching.

football- same logo on sleeve as what is on the helmet.....too repetitive...

hockey- logos that are a cartoon character with a "mean" facial expression holding a hockey stick,

i'd say over 90% of minor league teams do this

baseball- grey catcher's gear

basketball- the lakers.....no real pet peeve, i just hate the lakers.

soccer- this used to be a pet peeve, but now i really like it....teams whose away strip are a complete different color scheme i. e. arsenal who usually wear red and white, but blue and gold as an "away" strip. or germany wearing green instead of their usual white w/ black, which they don't do anymore, oh well. i'm not sure if this would work in any of the above sports....

One thing that annoys the HELL outta me is when a football team wears one color helmet, a different color jersey, and yet a different color pair of pants. IMO the best look is the helmet and pants matching and the jersey being a different color, but same color helmet and pants is ok too.

And 80s style mesh jerseys.

The rockies to no end annoys me!

Its bad enough they have gray pinstripes.

But a BLACK VEST!?

last year they wore purple undersleeves

but this year they are wearing BLACK shirts under the BLACK vest, what kind of hell am I in!?

and I left out the purple jersey and hat!

Also teams that were loved the color teal 10 years ago, but now have as minimal teal as possible, Im looking at you Marlins!

The Arizona Cardinals

The Atlanta Falcons

The Buffalo Bills

The Cincinnati Bengals

The Baltimore Ravens

The Denver Broncos

The 2006 Minnesota Vikings

Monochrome Football Uniforms in any color but white.

The Oregon Ducks, Miami Hurricanes...make that all the silly ass, piping in half circles, one orange one green sleeved, oddball pants striping, "modernized" nightmare Nike college football uniforms

Jim Tressel's Ohio State travesty (why did he think going with Nebraska's look was a good idea?)

The Arizona Diamondbacks

The Colorado Rockies black vests

The Toronto Blue Jays and so on...

Anything "modernized" or "updated" because all that really means is "our new style that 5 years from now you'll never believe you actually wore such a monstrosity look."

Anybody remember leisure suits and parachute pants?

Old school is not only the best school, it's the only school! (OK let me have it all you "modernizers"):D

PIPING!!!!!

Teams are adding piping just for the sake of having piping!!!

Unless it fits the overall look of the team perfectly, DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!! It just looks tacky and mentally handicapped.

I hear you on that one--last year saw piping overdone with the CFL redesigns, and none of the uniforms looked better with it.

Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here."

The "Dodgers" patch on their road jersey bothers me, though not enough to make me hate them. It looks so weird to me seeing a patch that is just a script on the sleeve when the front has a long script--"Los Angeles"--on it. I think it would look a lot better with a patch-less sleeve.

A well worn complaint: Sleeveless football jerseys.

And Rugby jerseys all covered up in advertising patches.

What he said.

The demise of the sleeve on a football jersey over the last 20 years has been one of the worst trends of all. How long before they are like AFL guernseys and have shoulder pads protruding from completely sleeveless jerseys.

I would add just in the football category:

Yes on piping or side panels

Football jerseys with different colour sleeves than the rest of the jersey (The Jets are exempt)

Use of strange number fonts

Use of anything flourescent, like tennis ball yellow

Using black when it is not a team colour

The gray facemask trend in the NFL

Hockey pet peeves:

Too many changing/rotating alternates. Personally I thought two jerseys were enough; three was okay, anything more is pushing it. Especially when every team in the NHL suddenly had a black one.

Darks at home, whites away. I was used to the other way.

Players with numbers like 79 and 87. Just cause Gretzky had a high number back in the day, now everyone else wants one too.

Baseball pet peeves:

Gray, gray, gray, gray, gray. How about some powder blues? :)

AFL pet peeves:

The mere idea Essendon could be forced to wear anything else

This one dosen't bother me so much if you know the history behind why they took the number. Gretzky changed to 99 because when he signed with Edmonton his first contract was to 1999, also it was to honor Gordie Howe too. Jagr chose 68 to honor his grandfather who was killed during the Prague spring of 1968.

If you want to mention the Lakers you could mention:

1)That stupid L logo that has no point

2)Getting rid of the much cooler drop-shadow numbers

3)White jerseys

how about something our dear friend and uni scout Paul Lukas brought up when the birds of the desert (AZ Cards, folks) introduced their new "modern" (buzzword) look to injured eyes everywhere: the mini-logo on the shoulder yoke (to quote PLuk directly: "which better not become a league-wide trend"). Well, the Vikings weren't listening, as now the lil viking head can now be found on their shoulder yokes. (who else besides me can see a yellow alt coming in the near future, to be worn with the purple pants?) It got bad enough when teams in the NBA started doing it afer the Mavs stuck a star up top of the rear nameplates, which I thought was rather cool. Then the Knicks had to do it, then the Bulls, Im hearing next year the Celts will stick a shamrock up there, teh Kings have a mini-crown up there-and remember, this came after the advent of the "butt-logo" on NBA shorts (or in the case of the Raptors, the butt panel with the team name). If THAT trend ever makes it into the NFL, look out world.

By the way, is it too early to predict the next NFL team to re-do their identity? Why am I thinking NFC north, for some reason? One clue: RRROOOOOAAARRRR!!! (And I don't mean their lil pseudo-Raider alter-egos...)

And while THAT'S on my mind, and someone mentioned it earlier, if blac ain't in our color scheme, DON'T USE IT! if it must be, do it as an accent or trim (KC, are you listening?). The black alts for the Mets work ok cuz 1) it's NY and they can get away with it (I guess it don't look too bad on the Knicks, either), and 2) they were the first baseball team to go to it full-time. But then Cincy decides to do it (WHY??? YOU'RE THE REDS, NOT THE :censored: BLACK-and-RED'S!), then KC for some reason adds black. (Hey Royals: how about some of that nice shiny GOLD that's in your crest logo, eh?). And if ANYONE remembers when the Oakland A's tried that experiment--black jerseys with green type outlined in yellow? Um... :puke:

So...yeah.
