San Jose- Edmonton

I know there is an overall playoff thread but I think this series deserves it's own thread. This is a great series. I am glad I am glad I'm in college now because that means school is over and I can stay up and watch this series. Both buildings are loud (BTW, the Shark Tank is the best nickname for an arena). The games are back and fourth and physical. My only wish is that OLN would just do Bonus Coverage for every game in the series that way I could listen to Jim Hugston call every game not just the ones in Edmonton. He's the best hockey announcer hands down. Let's hope this goes 7 because the other series have been duds.

And that's why watching Canucks hockey on Sportsnet is so great. Get to hear him 65 times a year (including HNIC)

As for the series, go Sharks, I hope they can pull out the next two games. I'd love to see the Battle of California.

I remember when he and Buck Martinez used to do the play by play for the Triple Play Baseball series. Now thats was some good times.

not to be off topic, but isn't jim hugston(SP?) one of the announcing voices on NHL 2000 and 2001?

He's been the voice for NHL 2000-NHL 06.

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

Jim Hughson is by far the best color commentator in hockey.

I am very happy to have him describe the game on CBC and I hope he'll be thier choice all the way to the finals.

Four times IHL Nielson Cup Champions - MontrΓ©al Shamrocks (2008-2009 // 2009-2010 // 2012-2013 // 2014-2015)

Five times TNFF Confederation Cup Champions - Yellowknife Eagles (2009 CC VI // 2010 CC VII // 2015 CC XII // 2017 CC XIV // 2018 CC XV)

He was the voice of NHL 98 for the computer as well. Don't know about 99.

This is a great series. So far I think these playoffs have been great. In the NHL the only important thing is getting in and once you're in anything can happen. You would never see an 8 seed advance to the conference finals in the NBA. Right now any team still in it can win the stanley cup, it is wide open.

There is just no excuse to be booing the canadian anthem. That is just poor form.

Stranger still, there are a fair proportion of Americans who don't even bother to show their own flag the proper respect during the anthem - ya know, hat off, stand up, stop yapping on your cell phone. Yet some are moved to boo another nation's anthem. WTF?

On a personal level, I'm just glad it didn't happen in Philadelphia. God knows, they'd find a way to tie a few jack*sses booing the Canadian anthem to a bunch of drunks booing Santa Claus in the late 1960s...

"Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

Will you pull your head out of your teal-painted, bandwagon-jumping ass for a moment, buc?

I think you'll find that most people here have condemned it on both sides. Try reading without the "woe-is-us" Shark bias for a change and notice that.

It's not cool in San Jose, it won't be cool if it happens in Edmonton, it was lame in Montreal, it was lame on Long Island, etc, etc, etc.

The Sharks are not the persecuted little children of the NHL. They're a 90s expansion team that's worked their way through the lean early times that any new team has. They have, by any account I've seen, a great arena and a solid fan base that's been there since the Cow Palace days. Those are indisputable facts. However it's also undisputable fact that it's still a pretty damned young franchise, in NHL terms, and they haven't won a damned thing yet. (And, before you point it out.. yes, I know the Blues fit in that latter category, too. *sigh*)

Grah. I've always had a soft spot for the Sharks. That goalpost against the Leafs in 1994? Brutal. But I'm getting close to putting them in the box with teams such as the Puerto Rico Islanders as having a whiny-assed, tin-foil-hat-wearing group of fans. <_<

Back to Jim Hughson for a second ... I agree that he's a great play-by-play guy, but it's too bad he's stuck with an idiot for a colour commentator in Greg Millen. I can't stand Millen.

That is all.
