TBay trades Darryl Sydor back to Dallas for a 4th rounder in 08.

WTF.....this really sucks, but at least we can do what we want with a draft pick

It called a salary dump. That's what happens when you give a 20 goal scorer who is a restricted free agent 7 million dollars per year.

I still have no clue what Tampa was thinking with that Richards contract. First off he was restricted meaning he had little to no negotiating power. Second even if was a UFA he wasn't going to get 7 million dollars, 5 at most if that.

Probably the fact that he won the Conn Smythe trophy, the Lightning probably thought that was a huge thing. They also probably wanted to lock him up for a few years. Other than that, it was a ridicolous deal.

Kings sign Alyn McCauley

Thats kind of a bummer. Good up and coming player. But this will clear some space for the Sharks.

I'd LOVE to see JR here. I hate the guy with a passion but I find him to be unbelievably entertaining. Bring in Sean Avery too and they'll bask in our media.

Where was the Belfour in Florida rumor heard? This sounds very interesting.

Haven't heard anything about Eddie The Eagle going to Florida, but I've heard a few "Belfour to Detroit" rumors. Sorry, but I think I'll pass. Eddie's been one of the top goalies the NHL's seen in the past 30 years, and the best player ever to play in Saginaw, but he's 41 and his back is a mess. IMO, the Wings would be crazy to take a chance on Belfour, even for one season.

Ed Belfour, circa 1998-99? Definitely.

Ed Belfour, circa 2002-03? Sure.

Ed Belfour now? No thanks. Let him finish his career somewhere else, or retire, then the Spirit can raise his number 31 to the Wendler Arena rafters.

So where do you guys think Pronger will end up? And what will the trade look like?

I'm hoping he comes to Ottawa so we can have a BIG physical presence on the blue-line. Maybe Pronger for Havlat,Volchenkov and a pick

They'd ask for Messorov (or however his name is spelled) and most likely Havlet and a first round draft pic if they were to trade him to Ottawa.

I really don't know where he'll end up, but I'm willing to put money on him going somewhere in the States, not in Canada. Tampa Bay may be his destination or possibly Detroit if they are willing to part with Zetterberg or Datzyuk. All I know is its going to be hard to predict where he'll go.

I agree there. And if I'm Muckler, the only Blueliner that's on the table is Chris Phillips. Mezaros and Volchenkov are both young stars, and Ottawa would be silly to part with them. Frankly, I wouldn't even want him in a Senators' sweater. In a lineup loaded with talent in St. Louis, he did jack squat for years in the Playoffs. It'll take more than a single playoff run to convince me of the need to let go of some serious talent for him.

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008
