Iraqi players killed for wearing shorts

Seriously, what the hell? Someone show me where it says in Islam that you can't wear shorts.

Well, when wearing shorts, the thighs must not show. Most soccer shorts I have show at least a little thigh.

Also, from an Islamic scholar:

?There is nothing wrong in wearing shorts for men according to the consensus of scholars if the shorts are long enough to cover from the navel to the knee. However, if they are too short to cover up to the knee, then it is controversial among scholars. Therefore, it is not desirable for a Muslim to expose what is above his knee in public. However, we cannot say it is strictly Haram (prohibited) if a little bit above knee is exposed if his private parts are fully covered from both the front and the rear. The reason for this is that there are certain Hadiths that indicate such permissibility when people are interacting with close friends. Therefore, it is considered undesirable to do so in public without discrimination.

Again, most soccer shorts don't go to the knee.

I guess they're supposed to wear LEVIS on the court rather than Nike or Adidas shorts. Unreal. This is the country we're fighting to protect, right?

nah were there to make iraq safe for pornograghy, MTV, Elton John, and American Idol. What do you think we are there for democracy? heck our gov't don't even respect our own democracy, never mind prop up a failed democracy in the Middle East. We got to make the world safe for pornography and the alternate life syle agenda.

:P

man this is crazy. further more showing you what we are dealing with. if iraq athletes get shot and killed for those type of shorts, what the heck is the penalty for football and basketball cheerleaders that wear VERY short shorts?

umm, yeah, protect. That's what we're there for...

What a stupid comment. I assume you are applying we are there for oil? I really wish people would read up on the economics of oil and how wars effect this before they make comments. We have less oil from Iraq now then we ever did man.

Then why are we there? What were the mission objectives? Could you refresh my memory and tell me which of them have been accomplished (other than deposing Saddam)? Which of our suspicions have been proven true about that country, suspicions that made w go to war?

It's people like you supporting those imperialist pigs in Washington that make people around the world hate the US.

(It's a disgrace that those players were shot. I hope religious fanatics don't take that country over.)

We are there to take down the Saddam regime (which we have done). Now, we were lead into the situation with bad intel that led us to believe Saddam still had WMD (I say "still" because we know he did at one time). Again, it is obvious you have no idea on the economics that surround a war and you are simply going off of what you hear on 'The Daily Show' saying we are there for oil. Iraq is our 8th largest import of oil and since the war we have seen an incredible decline in the amount of oil we have imported from Iraq. I am not going to get into a political flame war with you and I am not going to pull the "You are the reason blah blah blah"...If you would like to discuss this PLEASE pm me. I am always up for a political debate. However, this thread does NOT need to turn into one (I admit I started it and I am sorry I said anything) and it should not overshadow the very tragic and senseless actions that happened to these tennis players.

Don't tell me what I do and do not know. Right now, the Iraqi government is not ready to export all of the oil it has. But when it is ready, who do you think is going to be its biggest client? The United States.

Maybe the US isn't getting oil from Iraq now. If and when the govt. gets stable, it will be a much different story.

Actually, their biggest clients will more then likely be India and China. Currently India and China are using something like 2/3 of the world's oil supply right now.

Even if we are not there for oil, there's not really anything we've done to "protect" Iraq...

It's a shame about the tennis players, though. It's the radical right-wing insurgents having their way with the country. The soccer players in Saddam's time were allowed to wear shorts, just look at photos. (although they were killed for other things; I'm not trying to defend Saddam). The fears I have for Iraq are that radical Islamists will take power in the country, and impose Taliban-esque laws on the citizens.

I think we can conclude from this that soccer needs some saggy shorts like basketball.

The World Basketball Championship, the Davis Cup, Ryder Cup, Iraq: Every day there's further proof that we, as a nation, are not very good at international competition.

This isn't the first time Iraq has attacked their own athletes. When Sadam Hussein was in power, his men used to torture their Olympic athletes. I don't know what the problem is with these extremists. It's like their idea is "We will rule the world. You do as we say or everyone in the world dies." Gee that's a good philosophy. If everyone in the world dies who are you going to rule over?

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

Yeah, really.

If the US needs to start a war over oil, we would take on our amigos to the south and our neighbors to the north. It sure would save on the travel expenses.....

We've freed Iraq, we've given them control of their own government and country, and we've agreed to leave as soon as their government asks us to leave. It took the US 10 years to accomplish the same thing in Japan. We're what....3 years into Iraq?

It's a shame about these Iraqi athletes.

to rebuild a country like iraq, it'll take a 75 year occupation. Germany and Japan was at least half assed civilized nations and we still have troops in Korea, Germany and Japan and those wars have been over for 75 something years. Iraq is a nation in the 9th century with no history of democracy, they haven't even reached the Magna Carta which is the cornerstone of democracy, what they have is a paper gov't ready to be shredded to pieces when we are kicked out of Iraq like the North Vietnamese did to the South VIetnamese when we were kicked out of Vietnam.

we dealt with the same kind of insurgency with the Nazis after WWII. The insurgents of their time was the Werewolves. What we did was round up the werewolves, tied them up to a lamp post and shot them in a field of battle. We didn't prosecute our troops for firing excessive bullets. We didn't have anti-american reporters embedded waiting to jump on our military for pc violations. Had we had the embedded journalists and sensitive war mentality running this occupation that ran the german occupation, the Nazi's would have torn the new gov't to shreds, the Nazis would have kicked us and we would have another Nazi Germany to deal with, possibly igniting another war.

what needs to happen is the embedded reporters need to be pulled out of Iraq, then have pentagon briefings as the only reports out of Iraq. Then we need to uncuff the troops and let them shoot the radicals in the field of battle with out fear of pissing off the new york times. In other words, unleash a blitzkrieg against the radicals. The occupation will go alittle better than its going now. If it pisses off the new york times, hollywood and Howard Dean, too bad. I want this dam thing over and not a prolonged 100 years sensitive war.

Are you eligible to run for Office in 2 years? You have my vote.....

Bush is a lame-duck President. Why care about approval ratings on CNN.com if you're not going to be serving after 2008? I'm getting tired of Bush trying to please the Demo-idiots on everything he does.
