FiddySicks
That's his son. Are you sure about that? I thought that was Hei Sop Choy, or whoever the Asian guy is who plays for the Sox. (Wow, that could be classified as a racial steriotype ) Isn't that Iguchi? Thaaaaats it. i couldnt think of his name. Jigga
1. The other guy in the pic is Ozzie's son, really.2. All f-cking f--gs everywhere should be pissed that they have been compared to that blowhard, egomaniac creep Jay Mariotti.3. The ChiSox should sit his ass for a week. John Rocker got 14 games for saying stupid, offensive . Baseball should fine him severely and if the Sox don't do anything, I hope MLB does the right thing and sit his ass down.4. Ozzie's looking for a fight, so I suggest he go to the roughest gay hangout he can find. I mean one of those places where a bunch of 300 pound, strong-like-bull, biker dudes congregate. Let him call one of those dudes what he called Mariotti and see what kind of reaction said comments would get then.5. Ozzie's a punk, plain and simple. Good manager, but a punk nonetheless. DG_ThenNowForever
I actually buy the culture excuse this time around, that things in Venezuela are different. I'm sure you can call people f'ing fags in Venezuela and no one bats an eye. Anecdoteally, college friends from South and Central American have told me as much. Of course, Ozzie Guillen isn't IN Venezuela so he can't saythat kind of stuff *publicly*. What's happened is that Ozzie's idiosyncracies and foul language have been wildly celebrated since taking over the Sox and he's often encouraged to outdo himself. Rick Reilly had a piece recently (while some might call it racist) that lampooned Ozzie's speaking style and the words he chooses. There have been other stories in SI about Ozzie's rough language and choice quotes.Ozzie isn't dumb. But what he did -- getting himself quoted using slurs -- was dumb. It's a tough balancing act for these athletes. They talk like that all of the time and are supposed to become different people when talking to media. Makes sense, of course, but probably difficult.Anyway, stupid Ozzie, Jay Marriotti sucks, and should Ozzie get suspended, I'm sure he'll learn his lesson. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
Hat Boy
There is a fine line between being a straight shooter and being a loudmouth. Ozzie has been dancing that line for a while and I'm afraid has ventured over it a few times this season.

He's using it as an excuse. [Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008 Attention: In order to obtain maximum enjoyment from your stay at the CCSLC, the reader is advised that the above post may contain large amounts of sarcasm, dry humour, or statements which should not be taken in any true sort of seriousness. We can argue that most of your attitudes towards the world are developed before you're 20, but you and I both know that Ozzie definitely knows better. infrared41
It associates a group of people with Mariotti and that is wrong. I agree. If I were gay I wouldn't want to be associated with a dumb like Mariotti either. Ozzie should have said it like it is. Mariotti is a no talent annoying hack who screams for a living. Calling Mariotti a fag is an insult to gay people. They deserve better than to be thrown in with the likes of Mariotti. Ozzie was definitely wrong with the words he used but his feelings about Mariotti's ability are right on the money.
brinkeguthrie
Bud will for sure squash Ozzie for this one. Just a question of when. And Reinsdirf will support Ozzie to a point...to when his team stops winning.PS great piece on Oz here:http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/indexn?blogid=
Sodboy13
While I detested Guillen's use of a homophobic slur (with Pride weekend just around the corner - nice timing, Oz,) I think he's right on the money with his sentiments regarding Mariotti. "Eddie Munster" is a hypocritical blowhard who should have no credibility with anyone who has a thought. I did enjoy Guillen's apology, which in effect said that he regretted using that word, but his use of that word didn't change the fact that Jay Mariotti was, is, and always will be an idiot. Amen to that. The_Admiral
Guys, Mariotti is a talented writer, actually. He just chooses to stir up trouble to sell papers. In terms of writing skill, he's better than a lot of sportswriters. He just happens to act like a douche. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Bwana Bob
I believe him when he says it was not a homosexual reference. To draw on a famous George Carlin bit, "A fag is a guy who won't go downtown and beat up queers."
sscrunner06
According to espn.com, Ozzie was fined an undisclosed amount of money and ordered to take sensitivity training by MLB. I saw a clip of his "apology", and it was a little less than sincere to say the least. No suspension for his comments, although Ozzie was suspended 1 game for the earlier beanball incident. quantum
I have mixed feelings about this. Granted, it's wrong to slam Mariotti by using the slur. However, it is refreshing to have someone not play the PC crap. The reason I say this is I find the follow up obligatory excuse/apology lame and insincere and almost worse than the original offense. Why can't this world just except a response from Guillen like "The pr*ck set me off" or something in that fashion? Instead, we get Guillen digging up things that illustrates how he has nothing against "those people". But, for some ridiculous reason, most of the public will forgive him because of his so-called apology. Also, I believe people have the right to their opinion. That's not to say he shouldn't be fined for it, but firing him is going too far. IMO, that goes too far in infringing on his right to speech. Freedom of speech applies even for :censored: like what Ozzie said. "One of my concerns is shysters show up and take advantage of people's good will and generosity". It's because Ozzie Guillen is in a high-profile position, i.e. manager of the team that won the World Series, and in 2+ years' time has already compiled a significant list of questionable and tasteless rants and actions. It could've been anyone besides Mariotti and it would've been a story. Whatever. He has the right to say what he wants, but he's not endearing himself to the media by calling one of their own a f-cking fag. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

HappyBrownie13
I can't believe no one picked up one this line form the article. Guillen also told Couch that he has gay friends, attends WNBA games, went to a Madonna concert and plans to go to the Gay Games in Chicago. Can I just say this both need to shut up. What Ozzie said was offensive. It associates a group of people with Mariotti and that is wrong. That said it's not like Mariotti has never said a stupid thing before. Ozzie should be suspended though. You can't use that language. hahaha that was amazing! when you're replacing an old Carr, you need more than Les Miles
