TBGKon
Above is a screen cap of a pic of Jonny Gomes (Rays) and Andruw Jones (Braves) wearing the throwbacks that will be worn in todays game. This pic was taken at BP for Fridays game. Presumably they will wear throwback caps as well.
TFoA
They better, or else it will look supremely tacky. Those Atlanta Braves throwbacks, as stated before, are super saucy sweet. The Tarpons look is kinda boring, reminds me of a high school uni from the 80s.

As for the Tarpons jersey I didn't think high school, I thought double knit Reds and as I looked it up on Wikipedia I see that the Tarpons were a Reds affiliate for over 50 and the time corresponded for when the reds wore similar unis. iowahoo
One thing I always wondered about the Braves set at the time when they used them had to do with the white panel discrepency on the hats and batting helmets. The hats the white is "evenly" applied to the front two panels of the hat. But on the batting helmets, at the time and correctly reproduced for tonight's game, the white part seems violently pushed forward, almost Nike-fied in order to be more aerodynamic.Anyone have any idea why the difference exists/existed? I think just about every batting helmet that had a contrasting front panel looked like this. While on the cap, the contrasting color took up the front two panels, it was always more triangle-shaped on the helmets. An exception I can think of is the Padres, who had a contrasting triangle on their caps and their helmets. Also, note that this batting helmet also features a white brim, unlike the hat. There were other instances during this time period of the caps and helmets not exactly matching up; for example, the Brewers having a yellow front panel on their road cap, but a white front panel on their helmets.By the way, these Braves throwbacks still look great. Beats their Sunday alts by a mile. Would it be so bad to make these the alt instead? It's all about the sleeve feathers, people. Frylock
Yes, Yes, YES! My Braves in their throwbacks... Makes me a happy man. I think that B might be a bit too large compared to the original, but at least they got the right pants -- i.e. no modern trim around the belt loops. And for you retro-haters out there, when I wear my Aaron-era Braves hat (the one seen in the above pics) my wife makes me remove it because she says it makes me look short-bus special! slapshot
It must have been 70's Night at the Trop. The Braves were wearing 70's era uniforms, and the Tarpons existed in the 70's as well. I caught a bit of the game on TV, and they were showing the Jumbotron when Johnny Gomes was batting; in his picture he was dressed up in a wig and holding a guitar, looking like Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. BigShoop
Hmmmm......D-Rays testing the market? That's what I was thinkin too.......Especially after I read this:Since the Rays normally wear green uniforms, accessorizing was a problem for some. Most players opted to wear black shoes, while others, like Carl Crawford, had options."I'm going with the black and red ones, man," Crawford said. "I like those a little better."Crawford was told Tarpons was one of the names mentioned as an option if the team decides to change from Devil Rays."They're trying to give us the Tarpons?" Crawford said. "Man, I don't know, all of these sea names. Let's get some real animal names, you know. Something aggressive with fighting in it, you know." dannymits
Hmmmm......D-Rays testing the market? It was a good night to test them out. The paid attendance was 26,686. Not bad for a game in St. Petersburg.
infrared41
Johnny Gomes was batting; in his picture he was dressed up in a wig and holding a guitar, looking like Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. Actually, Jimmy Page was Zeppelin's guitarist. Plant did the vocals. Love those Braves Jerseys. The Rays "Tarpon" jerseys were pretty bland. Coast2CoastAM2006
the braves throwbacks are pretty cool looking but the Tampa Tarpons, don't know about that. They're just asking to be rebranded the Tampons. they best just stay away from that name. Spoilers!
TBGKon
Just a couple of notes:- The Rays have had throwback nights in the past. Back 5 or so years ago the Rays wore Tarpons throwbacks from the 50's/60's. Another year they wore throwbacks of the St Petersburg Saints and last season they wore University of Tampa throwbacks (since Lou Piniella is an alum of there). FiddySicks
Oh my God. Those Tarpons unis look amazing. Sort of Stanfordish, but still great. Classy and simple. Id support that 100%, as long as they dont use a red T hat. Too Rangers to me. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
