I'll add Washington and possibly Carolina. Many teams use a stick in their logo as the stick is more well known as the puck. I saw, I came, I left. DG_ThenNowForever
What about the changing of the ball on the Larry O'Brien trophy!?!? That's a good question. My guess is that they just leave it alone. I think when we think "basketball," we have a pretty vivid image, nonwithstanding this new redesign. I think it's probably okay to keep the traditional basketball atop the traditional-looking O'Brien Trophy. By the way, how long has the O'Brien Trophy been the NBA championship trophy? To me, it's one of the better looking sports trophies, but it also looks awfully modern. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

To me, it's one of the better looking sports trophies, but it also looks awfully modern. Good question....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_O%27Brien_Trophy Probably should have looked it up myself...Interesting:The trophy is made of approximately sixteen pounds of sterling silver and vermeil (with a 24 karat gold overlay) and stands about two feet tall. It is designed to look like a basketball about to enter a basketball net. The basketball itself is the same size as a regulation size NBA basketball. The trophy is created each year in the Tiffany & Co. Silver Shop. That makes sense, but I had zero idea that it was supposed to be a ball in a net. I always thought it was some kind of post-modern design. Oh well. Still looks pretty good. Also, it might be part of the most famous athlete/trophy photograph of all time (with Michael holding his head against the trophy -- currently used in a Gatorade ad? Is that right?), seconded probably by Messier in 94 with the Stanley Cup. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

rmackman
They could change the Larry O'Brien trophy and not many people would notice. They've changed the World Series trophy a few times didn't they?It used to have a ring with a crown and a baseball underneath with the two teams in the World Series on little pedestals, but I think around 1998 they changed it to have a baseball carved into a cup shape and more flags because the Diamondbacks and Devil Rays had joined the league. FiddySicks
the cuztomized team balls with the old design are 110 But at least those are leather. These new game balls probably arent any different than the $15 synthetic balls you get from K Mart. I'm sure Spalding's design team sat down and said "let's design the new NBA ball so that it is the same as the cheap off-shore balls but have it look different so nobody notices." DrBear
Maybe it's just me.,..but rotate that ball about 45 degrees and the pattern looks like a German Iron Cross (think th einsignia on the Red Baron's plane).Well, Stern is a German name... goforbroke
one problem with this ball is it would be hard to do a mulit-color version since there arent seperate panals... you might be able to pull off two-colors.. but three (like the ABA) is out of the question
rmackman
Yes you could. You could make the X panel one color, and each of the other panels different colors. powersurge
It would be pointless to change the nba trophy ball because of a new ball design. The NFL's Lombardi Trophy hasn't changed and the ball has had a few subtle changes over the years. Many soccer trophies around the world haven't changed either so I think it makes sense to keep it the same.
