St. Louis Browns

Another concept in paint from myself.....

I present the St. Louis Browns. Once again nothing spectacular, just simple.

Edited to correct the author's monumentally screwed-up memory of which St. Louis franchise was in which league and any comments based on that error. D'oh!

I'm going to assume that you mean these as if they would be the present-day uniforms of a real National American League team.

Overall, I generally like how these have a strong aesthetic connection to the old Browns unis.

But the home jersey does look way too much like the Giants for an NL team. I would at least make it a white jersey, not cream, and think about using tan (or anyway a warmer gray) on the road.

The caps really don't work for me. For one thing, putting a logo on a cap that's the same color as the cap is a bad move. But mainly, I'm thinking to myself, "This is a team named after a color. So why are their caps some other color?" Brown caps are mandatory here. Also, the fleur de lis really makes it look like some kind of Boy Scouts cap. Perhaps incorporate the fleur de lis and the StL together to make something unique from the Cardinals.

On the road jersey, you need a brown outline around the StL logo.

[Mr. Picky] The Browns were an American League team. The precursor to the Baltimore Orioles. But you knew that already.

Love the unis, hate the caps. I'd make them either all brown or brown with an orange brim, and use the StL logo, not the fluer di lis[sic]. Overall I like the concept.

I'm not feeling the hats much either. Like what Ballwonk was saying, the hat should be brown with an orange logo. THe other thing that bothers me for some reason is the orange cuff on the road jerseys. I just think it'd look better brown.

Great point about the road sleeve trim -- I completely missed that.

Personally, I'd rather see brown caps with a white logo outlined in orange. Making the orange equal to the brown makes this look too much like the Cleveland Browns. Make brown the dominant color, with the orange a secondary color.

These are good uniforms. But, nothing that could be considered in todays MLB. One thing I don't like is the orange fleur-de-lis on the orange hat. The hat IMO should be brown.

Looking better. I like the hats 10 times more.

My only thought is to make the sleeve trim on the home jersey orange.

The reason being that on the away jersey, the numbers are primarily brown and the sleeve trim is brown. It fits well. On the home, the numbers are primarily orange, so it seems like it might look better with orange. Either that, or have an orange stripe with thinner brown ones on the outside of it. Then maybe put some thin orange ones on the road set. Just a thought.

I love the new set! I see Shumway's point, but rather than make the home sleeve stripes orange, I would make the number on the back of the home uniform brown with an orange outline, like the road number. The orange number provides good balance on the front of the jersey, but no need to repeat the contrast color on the back where there's no brown to contrast with.

Yeah, that's another, and probably better, option. Orange stripes wouldn't show up too well on the home set, so a brown number would really set it off.

Now that's a good concept. Great recoloration of the hats. Good job.
