Red Sox vs. Yankees

0 to negative interest.

Even though my team sucks the least out of a terrible division, Cardinals/Cubs will always have a better atmosphere to me than Red Sox/Yankees.

For 2 main reasons:

No DH

Respect

We may hate each other, but we respect each other. Save for about 2 jerks in every bar of 200, everyone will get along before and after the game no matter if they are wearing red or blue. Its a fun experience going to a Cardinal Cub series, no matter if its in Chicago or St. Louis. Both cities travel very well and the stadiams are about 60-40 or so.

I'll be in the bleachers tomorrow.

As far as the respect, I couldn't agree more. I was at old Busch last summer, having a nice chat with a Cards fan in the concourse, and after we finished (he didn't at this point know I was a Cubs fan, as I wasn't wearing any Cubs apparel, and it wasn't a Cubs game), he saw my Cubs tattoo. The look of shock was hilarious. He laughed, and he gave me this look of, hey, you tricked me. He said, "you're a Cubs fan?" I replied that I was, appologised, we shared a laugh, shook hands and parted. I just can't imagine that happening between Yanks and Sox fans at Fenway or Yankee Stadium...

Well 5 games in 4 days neck and neck in the standings possible no wild card cushion this year tells me this really is one of the biggest series of the year.

Dude, look at BOTH West races then try to tell me that again.

There?s a difference both west division races come from mediocrity especially the NL West. No team in the west divisions, AL or NL, is real serious contenders. The Yankees, Red Sox, and in the Central White Sox, Tigers, and Twins are. Like I said the AL West is better than the NL West. I can't look at the NL standings without laughing at how weak that league is.

Yeah, not only that, but there's another month and a half to the season. Sure, the Sox could lose all five (and it looks like it wouldn't be that shocking to see here), but they could head down to New York and take the next four in mid-September. Not only that, but at any margin from, reasonably, four games and less can be wiped away by winning and losing splits against other teams.

You have got to be kidding me. Sure the NL West doesnt have much right now but to say the AL West doesnt have any real contenders is rediculous. The A's are one of the hottest teams in ball right now (ahhh after tonight please dont make me regret saying that Oakland), and you can NEVER count out the Angels. Hell, look what the Angels do in the playoffs every single year. Dont count out the AL West my friend, youll end up regretting it.

I guess I'm replying mostly to the part in bold. As a Yankee fan I get [slightly] offended when fans make the generalization that Boston and New York fans cannot be civil toward each other and enjoy a good-natured rivalry. Frankly, I've never had any kind of bad run-in with Red Sox fans (in fact, my old roommate is from Boston and is a Sox fan). At Yankee Stadium earlier this summer I sat behind a bunch of drunk Red Sox fans and we joked with each other and gave each other a hard time when something went wrong for each others' teams, but it was all in good fun and never once became hostile. Unfortunately I think that people around the country get a poor taste of the rivalry from those stupid fans that throw batteries and the like.

I know that my supporting evidence is only anecdotal, but I hope that even if it doesn't change peoples' mindsets when thinking about the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry as a whole, it might just give people a chance to think "well, not all fans of those teams are like that".

That said, go Yanks! Off to a great start this weekend!

I have to agree. You know it's bad if the Braves could get hot and still make the playoffs as a wild card. (I've given up on the division, the Mets got it this year.)

But yeah, Yankees vs Red Sox = annoying. I'm tired of the media treating this like it's the biggest thing. I don't buy the comment "Oh, it's August, this is as big as it gets." August my ass, if it was the second week of May, and the Yankees and Red Sox had a 5 game series going on, people would still treat it as the biggest series of the year.

well, as they say you can't spell YAWN without NY :D

not really interested in the Sawx or Yanquis, hence I don't really pay attention to their rivalry. and ESPN shoving it down our throats has more than a little to do with that.

Well, the way this series is going, I may have made one of the worst bets of my life.

I bet my Yankee fan co-worker that if the Sox win the series, she has to dress up as a Red Sox player for the company's Halloween Party. However, if the Yankees win the series, I have to dress up as a Yankee player.

Boy, am I starting to regret that wager...

Yeah, the Yankees won the first two games with guts. Now they are winning the third in a great fashion.

I think that the Yankees are cruising to the division since next Monday.

The Red Sox haven't any reaction. Some guys there need more fire from their self-respect.

Not sure what made you think that that was ever a good wager, DGivens. The Sox have absolutely NO pitching. We only have one starter that's worth anything -- Schilling -- and pretty much one reliever that gives us anything at this point -- Papelbon. Timlin, said "The offense has been letting down good pitching", or something to that effect, but he's been the weakest link on this team since he's come off of the DL.

If it meant Francona getting fired, I'd be willing to not win another game against the Yankees all year because this team isn't good enough to make the playoffs anyway.

I think I just got caught up in the competitive moment when I made that bet. Now mind you, I had come into work with a Post-It note on my sign in sheet reading "GO YANKEES!!!", constant harrassment while following Game 1 of Friday's DH on GameDay, which included calls, e-mails, and faxes to remind me that the Sox were losing. Yes, all courtesy of my fellow Yankee fan co-worker. So I challenged her to that bet.

Worst. Bet. Ever.

Eh, it happens. Usually seems like no matter what problem ails either team, coming into the series, all the games are competetive and either team could win any game. This series, however, the problems the Sox have had have multiplied. Can't hit with RISP, can't pitch in ANY situation -- Francona waits too long to take a pitcher out (took him until Beckett's 9th walk today to realize that maybe he just didn't have it).
