nyk... from the looks of your name you must be from New York or a fan of some New York team. The fact that you list the Giants and Jets as the two worst NFL helmets is ironic... as ironic as the cow-knight with a suede covered shield on the 2006 Chick-fil-a calendar.

lol....dont get me wrong I like my hometown teams, but we talking about best helmet. In that catigory, i think we all agree the Jets helmets suck, and im also not one for the retro helmets so much. I like the Giants' helmet when they had the word GIANTS on it, not the "NY". Never did like both NY football teams helmet when they reintroduce them. Now if we talking about uniforms. They are far from the worst.

1) 80's Patriots

2) Cardinals

3) Silver Seahawks (hate the blue)

4) Giants

5) Panthers

6) Saints

7) Vikings

I see a lot of people like the Eagles. To me, the new eagles helmet is something drawn for a cartoon. I like their 80's helmets with the big silver wings A LOT better.

Im sorry but no team in the league :censored: on this.....best helmet in football, EVER!

Funny thing is, you can say the exact opposite when your talking about the actual football team. They are :censored: in every sense of the word.....

Every team has sucked at some point in their history. The Texans will have their day soon. In the meantime they just have to get by with having the best uniforms and best stadium in the league.

Other than the Texans I've always loved the Chargers helmet. New, Old, it doesn't matter (although I prefer the Dan Fouts era version).

rounding out my top ten:

Seahwaks (hate the uniforms, love the helmet)

Buccaneers

Panthers

Colts

Cowboys

Steelers

Redskins

Jets

I can't believe only one person mentioned the Texans!

It's cause the logo is too big, just like the Panthers. Kick it down a notch, and you got a winner.

I like the proportion of the logo to the helmet. The rounded horns seem to line up well with the top of the helmet.

Plus I think it's good that you can see the horns from the front.

Of course it's big. When you have the best damn logo in sports, you have to make it HUGE.

Everything is bigger in Texas even helmet logos :P

My favorite is probably the Bengals. I also like the Giants (but I am biased), Rams (I like the old "yellow" ones over the current "gold" ones), old Cardinals, Browns, and Colts (white or blue facemask over the gray).

I loved the old Seahawks helmets, and like their new blue ones almost as much.  I also like teams like the Rams, Vikings, Breakers, etc, that really get more creative than a basic logo.  The Iowa Barnstormers would be up there for originality in the AFL.

I can't say I cared for the old Seattle helmets.... that bird looked like he was contemplating suicide.

Hey if you had to play in the Kingdome you would be doing yourself a favor by committing sucicide.

I wish a team like Texans would take the logo and place it on the front of the helmet above the facemask, wrapping the horns around the sides like the Eagles' wings. It would be something pretty cool to see....or maybe not.

Another idea was for the Ravens to take their alternate swooping Raven logo and place it so that the bird's head is above the facemask on the front, wrapping the wings like I described above. Now that would be different and disctintive. imagine lining up across from a lineman with this big bird head staring you down, how cool would that be?

RAMS.

And then everyone else.

http://www.helmethut.com/leatherram.html

This is where it all starts... props to the Gehrke...he was kicking our ass before the Steven Jobs was friggin born... all bow to the RAMS helmet...

Some pro football players are known for their running. Some are known for their passing. And some are known for their kicking. But Fred Gehrke was probably the only player known for his painting. Fred played for the Los Angeles Rams. He was a halfback. He also painted pictures. In 1946, Fred began thinking how plain pro football helmets looked. They were made of brown leather. Most of them had no other color on them. So Fred painted a picture. It showed how he thought the Rams' helmet should look. In the picture, the helmet was blue. There were gold horns on the sides. Fred showed the painting to the Rams' head coach, Bob Snyder. "Bob could not tell much from the painting," says Gehrke. "So he gave me a helmet. He told me to paint it the way I wanted."

Fred took the helmet home. He stayed up all night painting it. "I drew the horns on with chalk," he says. "Then I painted the rest of the helmet in blue. Then I came back inside the chalk lines with the gold for the horns. It was not easy. On those helmets, the leather was not even. It was hard to paint." The next day Fred went back to show the coach. He was afraid Snyder would not like it. But Snyder was pleased. He showed the painted helmet to everyone. Now Fred's real work would start. He would have to paint each one of the Rams' helmets. The team's owner, Dan Reeves, paid him $1.00 for each paint job. The next year, when the Rams came out on the field in their helmets, the fans stood up and cheered. But even then, Fred's work was not done. The helmets took a beating in games. A lot of paint came off. Fred had to paint some of the helmets after each game. In 1949, the helmet makers came out with a new helmet. It was plastic. This could be painted when the helmet was made. This way the colors and designs would not come off. Soon, other teams started putting colors and designs on their helmets. From then on, Fred did not have to paint helmets anymore. But his idea caught on. Today, all the pro teams have helmets painted in team colors. Fred Gehrke was not one of football's greatest players. But he added color to the game. And he did it in his own special way- with a brush.
