Do you have any sports superstitions?

If so, what are they?

Mine...

I only wear certain shirts under my Roethlisberger jersey. I MUST wear something Steelers on game day. I do NOT wear a steelers baseball cap {excluding SBXL champs one} until right before Super Bowl. I dont wear a steelers hat to school until right before super bowl. Same goes for Terrible Towel.

There is only one Pens baseball cap I wear to games {except for the Lemieux one im wearing on opening night} If it is cold enough that i have to wear a ski cap, I dont take it off until when I get to my seats. Never before, never during the game. When I get to my seat. I dont put it back on until I exit the arena.

My sig is also another example. The Steelers part I put in right before last season started, and I added the spinning penguin during the Olympic break, which the pens went on a tear for the rest of the season after.

And in gym class in school I always change my pants before my shirt.

Not that gym class is really an organized sport, but I do like to show off. :D

in high school before every hockey game I would shave the hair off of my knees. That's not so much superstition as it is my legs being incredibly hairy and the shin pads would rip the hair out of me knees if I didn't shave them. Wierd, I know, it looks really goofy when I wear shorts.

I will only listen to French language music before a French National team game. Not so much a superstition, as it is a way for me to get in the french mood.

Does that mean you neglect to shower a week beforehand?

For football the same guy always tightened my sholder pads and rolled my sleeves up for all 4 years. When we had our moment of silence I always said the same thing to myself. I also wore the same shirt under my pads for my last 2 years. Those supersitions didn't follow me to college. I'm not sure why.

Baseball I always wore my socks high. I also always wrote "Thou shall not steal" on my underbill of every team's hat (I was a catcher), and wore the same hat as long as we had that same style (4 years in the case of HS). If I do something and it leads to something good, I keep doing it. Example, this last week I was playing a game (adult baseball league) and I couldn't find my batting gloves. I've batted without gloves all of 2 times in my career, but I got a base hit. So I didn't wear them the next time and got the game winning hit. I won't wear gloves until I get an out. Its weird, I know it has nothing to do with me getting a hit, but it helps mentally.

When watching a game at a bar or at home, I stay in the same spot of my team is winning, and I move around until they start doing good again. I'm a weirdo.

Before lacrosse games I would always rub my rib pads. Don't know why, but I did. We didn't lose when I remember to do it. I also always wore high black socks, even though they didn't always work it was more of a confidence thing.

I always wore high, dark socks when I played basketball and baseball.

When I played football, I always had to put everything on in a certain order.

When I watch Broncos games, I WILL NOT wear anything Broncos. In the past three years, every time I have, they have lost. It doesn't stop them from losing otherwise, but I haven't been able to celebrate a victory since 2002 while I was wearing Broncos gear. Sadly, I figured it wouldn't matter and wore a jersey during the AFC Championship game, and we all know what happened there.

when I played rugby, I kept trying to find the right superstitions...the right pre-game ritual. sometimes I'd get hyped up too early, sometimes not at all. the only real constant was using electrical tape right under the knee to keep my socks up, and doing some of the same mental focus stuff to get into the mindset.

For basketball I make sure I don't step on any lines on the court until tip off. Why? Because some jackass told me that in grade 4 and for some reason it has stuck around.

In Aussie Rules:

-Socks on before boots

-Socks up

-Jumper out

-Always tape boots

In Soccer (all of my 3 games):

-Shirt out

-Socks up

-No shin pads

Basketball:

-Shorts that end just above my knees

-Singlet out (often difficult when the ref stops the game alot to tell me to tuck it in)

-Only wear a left sock

In all sports I choose the highest number on the team

And then i always stretch in the same order: quads, groins, hammys, calfs, back

Before every hockey game I need to hit a shot off the crossbar or post to have a good game. I guess it's a confidence thing, and I love the sound of it too. ^_^ Pretty much the only numbers I'll wear are 12, 17 and 18, or the highest number (always the smallest jersey).

In softball I always warm up with the same person.

Never step on a chalk line.

Draw a cross to the left of the batter's box before the first at bat (first AB for the entire team because I'm leadoff) and trace it for each subsequent AB.

As the pitcher, I always through two warmups to the outside corner (RH batter) and one inside.

Running - I have to go through stretching in a certain order

Before every basketball game I would take a paper towel or something and wash the bottom of my shoes off, just so they were nice and clean.

For football I would always go sit in the same place, and put my shoes on the at the same bench outside the locker room.

For track I would keep my hand in my pocket and use some hand sanatizer to keep it nice and warm and clean. ( I was a thrower)
