BlueSky
i didn't want to do it, but i actually shed tears in the ninth inning when joe buck was talking about "maybe you were 10 or 11 years old in 1984 and you've been a fan since. maybe you've gone through the lean times with the hope that they'll pull through it. maybe you're 32 or 33 years old now and have a son who's watching the game with you right now. this is for you, you've been waiting a long time."yes, i paraphrased, but that's the gist of what he said. i was 11 in 1984. my 3 1/2 year old boy was sitting on my lap right when buck made that statement. the tears came out, and i couldn't do anything about it. my son asked me what was wrong and i said "nothing, buddy, everything is right in the world at this moment. you'll understand one day, hopefully."saturday evening was truly the best day in my sports fan "life". the celebration with the fans was such a great thing to witness and made me wish i was back home to be a part of it.Very cool, what a great moment, and your son will surely remember and understand. Reminded me of standing in the Superdome when the last second ticked off the clock and my Saints had finally won their first playoff game over the Rams, 31-28, after the 2000 season. They'd been in the NFL since I was 6 and I attended my first game at age 8, and I was 2 weeks short of 40 that day in the Dome. I had tears in my eyes and so did the guy next to me, and his son was about 10 and looking at us like we were crazy. I said, "Your dad and I have been waiting for this moment since before we were your age." He probably understands now since he's going on 17 or so and they haven't been back to the playoffs since. This also comes to mind...many years ago, my dad and I had watched another "come from ahead" Saints loss and he remarked in disgust, "I'll be dead before they win anything." He died in the spring of 1991, and later that year, the Saints won the Western Division championship for the first time. I know he got a kick out of that. jkrdevil
I have a question for the Tiger fans complaining when the new ballpark opened that it was too pitcher friendly, are you happy with it now? I said when it first opened that it was a good thing because then you could build the team around pitching which is how you when in the playoffs. Now a few years later guess what the Tigers are in the World Series thanks to pitching. Do you think the Tigers would have made it this far if the played in a park like Citizens Bank Park in Philly? I don't think so.

HedleyLamarr
Detroit knew what they were doing when the Royals swept them. Wild card teams have now made the World Series in five straight seasons. (Angels, Marlins, Red Sox, Astros, Tigers)
Swiss
If teh Tigers win the WS I think Leyland should win SI Sportsman of the Year.If the Tigers win the WS, Leyland will enter to history as the 2nd ever manager to win WS with teams in both leagues.
