FiddySicks
I'm a Yankees fan. I love the Yankees. But Joe Torre is not Jesus, he didnt even have a winning record as a manager untill he became the manager of the Yanks. There is nothing magical or Casey Stengalesc about him. If Stienbrenner decideds to can him, than good.Suprisingly enough, I agree. Now yeah Torre won a lot of games and titles with NY, but how much managing did he really do? Teams that good kinda just manage themselves. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) And I'm sure Casey benifitted greatly by having guys like Joe Dimaggio, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford among others on his team.
Jigga
The payroll of the New York Yankees since they last won the World Series is more that ONE BILLION DOLLARS! Don't believe me? Check the figures (2001-2005 from baseball reference, 2006 from ESPN.com baseball writer Jayson Stark):2001: $116.4M2002: $138.9M2003: $152.9M2004: $195.9M2005: $214.1M2006: $198.7MTotal: $1.016BI like Joe Torre, but when you consistently get the best team money can buy and you don't end up chugging bubbly in the locker room, something's gotta give. In every other situation, the manager gets the blame when the team underachieves. For what Steinbrenner's paying, this team IS underachieving. When you underachieve at your job, what happens? You get the boot. Joe Torre deserves the same fate. On January 16, 2013 at 3:49 PM, NJTank said: Btw this is old hat for Notre Dame. Knits Rockne made up George Tip's death bed speech. budbowl77
wow...people agree with me..lollike i said guys, I love the New York Yankees. Bronx born and everything, but Joe Torre is not the greatest thing to ever happen to the Yankees. George Stienbrenner s checkbook was. If he wants to spend money on HIS team. thats his poragative. Just like any other team. If any of you who root for other teams had an owner like Stienbrenner, you'd all sing different tunes. I wish every MLB team had there own Stienbrenner someone who was willing to make the team better by any means necessary.
Cyclopsis Joe
As sad as it is that Torre will be the fall guy, it has been 6 years since a World Series. Most other coaches don't last that long, unless their name rhymes with "Dobby Sox".Hey, let's see you win 14 division titles (in a row) and then maybe we'll refer to you using clever rhyming. I don't speak for democrats, democrats don't speak for me.
OnWis97
Once again the Yankees had the best record in baseball--despite lots of injury problems. Obviously, when you are the Yankees, your true success is measured in the playoffs. HOWEVER, this playoff format lends itself to the best team not always winning the World Series. Anyone can beat anyone in a five game series. So the question has to be asked: What manager would have won more regular season games this year? And more importantly, could a different manager have prevented what happened in the ALDS? I don't think so.Sorry, George. You can spend all the money you want. But you still have to get through three short series every year. You CAN buy postseason trips but you CANNOT buy world championships. Spend at your own risk. All that said, I don't think there would have been much another manager could have done this year... I think it is the latter thus the person responsible and who should be fired is Brian Cashman the General Manager (Of course I've been saying that for the last 4 years). To change around a bit a phrase from Bill Parcells, you can't cook the dinner if you are given the wrong ingredients.
myartsaywhat
I love Lou from his Seattle days, but I dont know if he could handle the stress of George and the press. ESPN poll shows 75% think Torre should stay.

Pharos04
It now seems that cooler heads may prevail and Torre will stay.http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2618683Just saw it go past on the bottom line on Sportscenter. Wise decision I think. Yankees have done some pretty outrageous things past few years but that would've been the most boneheaded decision Steinbrenner has ever done. It's certainly not Torre's fault he can't try to manage roughly 25 different egos. I actually like and respect some of them like Mussina, Posada, Rivera, and especially Torre. Next to Jeter he's basically the face of the Yankees. Huge huge mistake that they have reconciled ..for the time being at least

Coast2CoastAM2006
what Steinbrenner does is akin to a chef buying a collection of expensive ingredients like Fois Gras, Truffles, Champagne and trying to make a pizza out of those ingredients. yeah your buying the best ingredients money can buy, however your not going to make a very good pizza out of it. same thing with the yanks, Steinbrenner buys all the best players money can buy, but they aren't getting the job done because they aren't the right players for the right time. yeah you can open up your wallet and bring in players, i have no problem with that. its his team and if he can do it, he will and should. however if you are going to spend money, buy the players you need not just the high priced ones. some times a high priced team isn't always the best team. puckhead42
Never believe rumours....never trust the media.....there was no reason to fire Torre....he has 4 rings to his credit since 96.....it had been...lets see 17 or 18 years...what year was it..78?...since the Yanks had won a series before Torre took over as manager....... Torre shouldn't be the fall guy for Steinbrenners failures. There is only so much a manager can do, its ultimately up to the players to get the job done. If they can't get the job done then you get players in that will. The players knows what needs to be done, thats why they are given the big money. the only reason i could see Torre getting the axe, is if the Yanks were missing the playoffs 2 and 3 years strait with a loaded line up. At that point, something needs to change. Spoilers!
