Your least favorite football uniform design element?

What common football uniform deisgn element makes you really cringe when you see it?

I cringe whenever I see jersey side panels that are a different color than the rest of the jersey. I will never forget my reaction when I first saw the Broncos in their side stripe unis. I thought "what a ridiculous idea for a uniform". I never thought that so many teams would follow suit. Then, in 2000 my beloved Rams got gold side panels, and I was upset. But 2 years later, they made it right by getting rid of them.

Here, Here! You said it. Nothing worst then at good uniform gone bad with the stupid side panels. With out the side panel the Bengals have solid uniforms.

I have a few pet peeves to note.

1. A different colored yoke than the rest of the jersey, so that the name is on a different background than the number. See: Bills white, Cardinals white, Bengals white, Alouettes

2. Helmets that are not the same color as any other part of the uniform. See: old Giants helmets (which I'm positive was navy), or the high school team seen here: http://www.courierpostonline.com/galleries...DEN/camden5.jpg

3. Gold and/or silver jerseys, as seen here: http://www.courierpostonline.com/galleries...EW/DSC_0033.jpg and here: http://www.thedailyjournal.com/gallery/spo...otball%2016.jpg

4. Imitating Dartmouth's helmets, as seen here: http://www.thedailyjournal.com/gallery/spo...neland%2015.jpg

1. GRAY MASKS Unless you are the Cowboys or the Raiders when gray/silver is in your scheme, you don't need to look "retro" with a gray mask (Colts, Browns, Cards)

I second that brother, AMEN!!!

That's the fist thing I thought of. The Colts RUINED their helmet.

I have to say logos on the sleeves.. buy the worsest example was when the Rams had horns wrapping around the sleevs, HORNS go on the head not on the shoulder...

Really for me the logo should only be on the helmet. No chest, sleeve, on the back, on the pants etc...

it bothers me when side panels and pant stripes dont match, it makes no sense. i also want to see sleeves back on uniforms, what was wrong with the jersey cuts back in 1998, 1999? lastly i hate it when the socks and pants match. i also wonder what it woudl be like if the nfl took away the two tone sock, and went with a solid color...just a thought

I never thought the Rams' example was egregriously bad, but I do agree that I hate sleeve logos that are the same as the helmet logo.

The Seahawks (current, the old wraparound sleeve was much cooler), the Niners, the Dolphins, et al. I hate the visual doubling-up of the logo.

The pants stripes used by the Falcons and Cardinals that wander off into piping near the knee. Ridiculous.

Close behind are "arc stripes" like the Broncos wear on their jerseys AND pants.

"Incomplete" helmet stripes (Ravens, Titans, Panthers, Broncos).

I don't think of the Broncos' stripe as "incomplete", just tapered.

As for the others, I don't mind the Ravens' and Titans' stripes. On the other hand, the way the Panthers' stripes flair out and just end in the middle of the helmet has alway bothered me.

Does anyone know why that is? Is it cat whiskers or something? It bothers me too. I appreciate the fact that its different because too many teams don't get creative enough with their helmets. I think the Titans were the first to have the short helmet stripe (which I like) and the Ravens followed. Since then not much has really been done.

With the possible exception of number 1, I really respectfully disagree with your opinions here, especially 3 and 4.

I really like the silver jersey / black helmet/pants combo (if used as a white jersey), but I'll agree that all gold or all silver sucks.

Also, while I'm glad most teams don't do it, I like seeing the occasional Dartmouth-style helmet.

In some cases, I agree with #2, but in the pic you showed, gold is clearly the primary trim color in the uniform, so I think the gold helmet is OK (as long as they never go with white pants.)

Okay, on #2, I meant to note the team in white, who has regular green for everything, but a midnight green helmet.

I take it you think the Eagles helmets are bad because wings are worn on the arms and not the head?
