wdm1219inpenna Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Hello friends, I'm back and better than ever (not!).Just wanted to share my thoughts about MLB on FOX during the post-season especially, my gripes about it, again in no particular order.....1. That "revving car engine" sound effect that they play when they show a replay, and then come back to live action again. That has to be the single most annoying sound effect ever! GET RID OF IT!!!!!!! I watch games on mute anymore when I can stay up that late of course, because of that.2. The 347 close ups they show between each pitch. A close up of J-Lo in the stands, a close up of the pitcher's face, a close up of the visiting manager, a closeup of the home manager, a close up of the fans in the stands, after each and every blessed PITCH it seems!!!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH3. The 19 different camera angles used, one in first base, one in the catcher's mask, one in the umpire's crotch! STOP IT!!!!!!Sorry I'm in a ranting sort of mood this morning, it's been a bad week, and it's only Tuesday. But MOST of all, MOST of all, I hate that they have the ALCS and NLCS games played SIMULTANEOUSLY now!!!! That's been going on for a number of years and it truly stinks. ALso having the games start at 8:45pm. And they wonder WHY their ratings keep going DOWN? Not to mention the FOX shows they continually shove down our collective throats. The more something gets promoted, the LESS I watch it, the less I WANT to watch it, and if only out of spite, I will refuse to watch it. But if something needs to be promoed THAT often, and THAT badly....then clearly it's an inferior show, and I refuse to watch inferior shows. There is NO REASON why, on days when both leagues are in action, that one game can't be aired at 4pm, and one at 8pm! NONE!!!!!!!! This is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!Regards,Bill McD.
Cyclopsis Joe Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Well, starting a game at 4pm EDT would be 1pm PDT. You can stay up late, they can't cut work or school I don't speak for democrats, democrats don't speak for me.
ZapRowsdower8 Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 You forgot the worst part. Joe Buck and Time McCarver.

The_Admiral Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Great, he's not just a crappy announcer, now he's an entire social construct. We'll never get rid of him! ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
The Nation Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 #2....i love the closeups, and Joe Buck does a good job by not saying anything during the closeups. its a chance for us to see the emotion, the anxiety, the tense looks on players faces.

CyJo makes a great point, if an event is on its way easier to stay up late rather than cut school or work to see it. 5:45 is perfect. How ARE THE LCS' simultaneous? Arent they both played on different days? Game 1 of the AL is tonight, game 1 of the NL is tomorrow. Does that change later in the series? meetthemets Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 1. Barely eved noticed the revving sound.2. Yeah, I hate it when they show close-ups of players, managers and fans. That camera out in centerfield that shows each pitch is a pain in the ass too. I also hate the camera that shows the players fielding the ball. That's so annoying. Wish they'd get rid of that. All the cameras are horrible. 3. Haven't seen a camera in the upm's crotch or on first base. They haven't used "catcher cam" in quite some time. I think I've seen it used twice since Fox has been doing MLB games. This Wednesday night is the only night that the two games are being played simutaneously. That means that the days the two are both playing the games ARE split up. A simple check of each schedule could have told you that. Gm 1 DET @ OAK Tue Oct. 10 8 pm FOXGm 2 DET @ OAK Wed Oct. 11 8 pm FOXGm 3 OAK @ DET Fri Oct. 13 8 pm FOXGm 4 OAK @ DET Sat Oct. 14 7:30 pm FOXGm 5* OAK @ DET Sun Oct. 15 4 pm FOXGm 6* DET @ OAK Tue Oct. 17 8 pm FOXGm 7* DET @ OAK Wed Oct. 18 8 pm FOX* - if necessaryall times tentativeSeries begins WednesdayGame Matchup Day Date Time ET TVGm 1 STL @ NYM Wed Oct. 11 8 pm FOX / FXGm 2 STL @ NYM Thu Oct. 12 8 pm FOXGm 3 NYM @ STL Sat Oct. 14 4 pm FOXGm 4 NYM @ STL Sun Oct. 15 7:30 pm FOXGm 5* NYM @ STL Mon Oct. 16 8 pm FOXGm 6* STL @ NYM Wed Oct. 18 4 pm FOXGm 7* STL @ NYM Thu Oct. 19 8 pm FOX* - if necessaryall times tentativeThere are plenty of things about the Fox broadcast that blow, none of which were even mentioned.

But other than that one nght, none of the games should overlap (barring extra innings on the earlier game.) Epiphanic Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I'm wondering if you hate all the camera angles that are being used? What should be replaced? It seems that you'd be better of listening to the game on the radio. Personally, I don't mind the camera angles and such. I think Joe Buck is a good announcer. Tim McCarver is a little different. I don't know if he just talks randomly, or he gets lost in the cavernous space between his ears, but he is almost the baseball equivalent of John Madden without the bonus of being the baseball equivalent of John Madden "In the arena of logic, I fight unarmed."I tweet & tumble.

zig Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Also the two fox guys covering the Met's 2nd game made fun of a seeing device that a fan needed to use. They said something like "Well I think he's in virtual reality" and "He's got a camera stuck to his face". Then the next day they had to issue a public appology. I think it was a great screw up and that those guys are retarted. Couldn't someone in the booth tell them to stop.
rams80 Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 At least they got rid of that cartoon talking baseball. (His name mercifully escapes me at the moment.) NJTank Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 That was annoying and uneccesary its like they were doing baseball for morons. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
DrBear Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Could be they were trying to explain baseball to the Fox esecs who hire morons to do games.
CC97 Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I also hate all the constant camera switches... there's no reason to switch to close-ups of 10 people in between pitches, and there's never any reason to keep cutting to close-ups of fans.Just let me watch the damn game. --- Chris Creamer Founder/Editor, SportsLogos.Net "The Mothership" • News • Facebook • X/Twitter • Instagram

I specifically was trying to get a good look at Padres' reliever Cla Meredith's set from the stretch (he throws from a 3/4 arm angle) to see if he had changed it since being traded away from my Red Sox. (Great trade Theo!). Nope, couldn't see much of it after FOX kept cramming in fan, dugout, and suite-level views right as the pitch was being thrown. A large cheese pizza, just for me.New England's source for soccer newsAnd hey, I made it to ESPN!
