Collapse in toronto

Just saw on FOX NEWS that the Uptown Theater in Toronto collapsed. From what i understand it was being used as a school at the time, and it is a historic building, built in the '20s. There may be 5 people, possible students, trapped inside. I hope that turns out to be wrong.

The theatre was located next to an ESL school at a busy downtown intersection, a wall collapsed in the theatre and went into the school.  Three kids (aged 8, 10, and 11) are still trapped inside the building (and have been for some time now).

Although, seeing the pictures on t.v. it's hard to believe anyone could survive being trapped in there  :(

They were tearing down the building (or preparing to) and I guess a wall gave out before it was supposed to and collapsed the wrong way.

I know this is nowhere near the magnitude of 9/11, but ever since then it is very chilling to see smoke rising from the skyline of your city.

I totally understand. Because now the first thing you think of is terrorisim. Was it a suicide bomber? Dirty bomb? bio-chem?

it is scary...

I know that most, if not all of us, have sensitivities regarding tragedy and loss, but let me tell you something, as a fairly new father (my daughter will be 2 next month), the thought of a child being hurt, or in peril and fear, is an absolutely excruciating sensation.  My thoughts go out to the victims, their families and to the community all of whom will have to deal with this tragedy on their own level.  And please, please get that child out as quickly and safely as possible!

That is horrible they shoudl have secured that building so it would not collapse on a school or close the school for a few days while the old building was secured.

Perhaps they should have even torn it down sooner if it was in that bad of shape.

Hindsight is 20/20.

What a sad day.  At least casualties weren't as high as they could have been. :(
