Coast2CoastAM2006
My question to anyone with any experience around Candlestick: Is it really that bad?The surrounding neighborhoods Bayview/Hunters Point are among the worst in the city and have the highest murder rate. Then again it is a low income - high crime area. But the stadium itself isnt bad at all. It is old, a bit run down, kinda boring in presetation, still had the old orange Giants seats, but all of that stuff is just asthetics and can easily be replaced. Only real issues I can see is that maybe the parking, which isnt perfect but not much worse than any other stadium, and it gets pretty cold there during the winter months, but its not like Green Bay or Buffalo or anything. If they are REALLY desperate, why dont the Niners try to work a deal to play at At&t Park? Its not like At&t park has never had football before. And itd save the owners, city, and taxpayers quite a bit of moneybut that makes too much sense. Spoilers!

winghaz
I had heard -- from a 49ers season ticket holder (how a guy in North Dakota knows a 49ers season ticket holder is a long story) -- that most of the 49ers season ticket holders are from San Jose, anyway.I don't know if this is true. This offshoot relative of mine who is a 49ers season ticket holder also lives in San Jose, and he might have been shooting his mouth off.Either way, the 49ers fans in San Jose must love this. rams80
Couldn't both the 49ers and the Raiders at McAfee?Sure, if you want Al Davis to sue the league again. Al Davis is a jealous God, tolerating no competition from other teams. gueman
If you lived in a place that the landlord didn't want to improve you would move right? How is this any different? Didn't any politician from SF hear of the Baltimore Colts? I'll be the first to admit that the city of Baltimore played hard ball figuring that the Colts would never leave. They did. Now if your owner wants a new stadium you either build a facility ,or work with private financiers to build it, or lose the team. To all the Niners fans the team is located in a city were the people that vote don't think the 49'ers are an important asset and chose not to elect politicians who would prevent the team from leaving. You can blame the York's for other things but not for moving. Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys. P. J. tp49
I had heard -- from a 49ers season ticket holder (how a guy in North Dakota knows a 49ers season ticket holder is a long story) -- that most of the 49ers season ticket holders are from San Jose, anyway.I don't know if this is true. This offshoot relative of mine who is a 49ers season ticket holder also lives in San Jose, and he might have been shooting his mouth off.Either way, the 49ers fans in San Jose must love this.I was listening to KNBR on Thursday and the hosts were saying that the majority of the 49ers players and staff also live in the South Bay (San Jose area). It's been this way since the practice facility was built down there. Also, with improved transit access (Amtrak Capitol Corridor, VTA light rail from San Jose, and the potential if the demand is there for ACE service from the Central Valley) will make it easier to get to then Candlestick.Last, I have to wonder what the true economic impact of losing the 49ers will be on San Francisco. Considering most people arrive in by car and if coming from the South Bay they get off at the 1st exit in SF off of Highway 101. Then they leave the same way never going any further into SF. Those coming in from the East Bay would generally do the same or stay totally on the freeway when coming in from the Bay Bridge. I figure the impact was more severe when they moved from Kezar to Candlestick. As an aside, according to the SF Chronicle, City officials and the Yorks are still talking so this may very well not be over yet. JH42XCC
Well, with the new 49ers stadium being built in Santa Clara, is there a possibility that Santa Clara University will reinstate their football program anytime soon?
