Now HERE'S a good ugly uniform article

Just a quick glance at the article, but the author's way off on some of the years in which these uniforms were worn...for example, he has the Nuggets' rainbow uniforms as being worn from 1976 through 1998. When in reality, they were worn - at least three different versions of them - from 1982-1983 through 1992-1993.

Newcastle United shouldnt be on that list.

Neither should the Buccaneers be, especially at number 1. The modern Bengals, for example, are way worse than the classic Bucs.

Further, for what it's worth, I love those Nuggets rainbow jerseys. I would have preferred to see the gradient Hawks in their place.

The article said it was for the helmet above all else. And I hav to agree with him. The old bucs logo is just an uncomfortable mashup of emotions. Winking, smiling, pirates, (who might kill you...see dagger in mouth) in the wind...not too good.

I agree with some of the choices, but since he is taking on all sports from all-time, there's a few obvious ones that I would put in there waaaaaaay before the Newcastle United's cool, classy stripes and the Padres camo jeresys, which I actually think are cool as a one-off.

The Astros rainbows were several steps beyond the Nuggets use of the rainbow, that damn Mooterus has to be worse and how does any discussion of horrid jerseys not include the LA King's Burger King or the Ducks Wild Wing? Seriously, if the players won't wear it, it's got to make the list.

Fox article may "back it up with reasoning" making it better than SI, but the descriptions don't make sense and are sometimes just wrong.

Newcastle United- Personally I think they look classy and the Toon Army will agree, but reasoning that they were modeled after referees doesn't make sense since in 1894 no refs wore stripped shirts.

Golden State- The description mentions the golden gate bridge but the picture of Nate Thurmond (greatest basketball player in Bowling Green history) shows the outline of the state, a different jersey all together. The one he refers to, with the bridge, has one of the coolest things on a jersey in my mind- instead of the team's name or golden state it says "The City"- something I have always thought was pretty cool.

So on first glance this article looks good, but once you read it and give it a perusal I just shake my head.

I totally agree, I think Newcastle's look is very sharp and appealing. I don't know how that could make the list over some hideous NFL attrocities these days (THE NEW VIKINGS HAVE THE WORST FOOTBALL UNI EVER. It's not even close. )

Terrible list.

Newcastle United FC looks great. As do the old Nuggets uniforms, the Padres camos (bonus points for why they wear them, and the old Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniforms. I even like the Dolphins orange alt. The rest of the list is alright, but I can find better examples of horrible uniforms.

I disagree with most of the list, actually. The Canucks, Preds, ChiSox, and Lightning are the ones I definitely agree with.

- If they weren't the Miami Dolphins, the orange alt wouldn't be so bad. My brother's a huge Phins fan, so I've grown up seeing the turquoise. The orange isn't ugly in my book, just kind of wrong.

- The Nuggets rainbows are some of my favorites. He lists them going until 1998...that can't be right. They had the navy blue ones back in NBA Live 95.

- As someone mentioned earlier, for a once-a-season deal, the camo Padres aren't that bad.

- I really like those Warriors uniforms, actually. Although it says there's a bridge on the back, which I'm curious to see.

- I don't get how the Newcastle ones are ugly at all. I think they're some of the nicer soccer uniforms I've seen, actually.

I'd throw in the late 90s Houston Rockets with the pinstripes and large, ugly logo. The current Oregon football set could probably fit in there as well.

Three?? Let me think for a second ... the early version was dark, dark navy with forest green trim, and the Fat Lever shown in the story is the royal blue with gold trim. What was Version 3?

I think the picks are pretty good overall. Definitely better than the SI picks. The one pick I disagree with is the Miami Dolphins. Their orange set is beautiful and they kick ass in those uniforms. Everything else I can't really argue with the logic.

Too true, ref's have never worn striped jerseys for football as far as I know. Seeing as the Toon's strip is practically standard dress for most geordies (but not me, I'm classed as a weirdo for not liking football in Newcastle!!) the author better not step foot here!

I'd still rate the Chicago White Sox shorts look as the ugliest ever in the history of sports. Even when they wore long pants, they were horrendous. Remember Wilbur Wood and his beer gut sticking WAY out while wearing the non-tucked-in jersey?
