nitroseed Posted December 15, 2003 Posted December 15, 2003 In the continuing string of AF2 expansion teams, the Rio Grande Valley franchise has unveiled its new logo and nickname: the Dorados. The following is from af2.com:"The word Dorados has several meanings to its name. The Spanish word means ?the golden ones? and/or ?the chosen ones,? and the name was given to the select cavalry that served under Pancho Villa during the Mexican Revolution. "A Dorado is also a name of a Central and South American fish known by anglers as one of the fiercest fish to catch (nicknamed the River Tiger), and as a term used in references to gold located in historic ancient Mexican ruins. "The logo, designed by GLS Graphics out of Lubbock, Texas, features a fictitious Dorado, with gold armor, holding a football. Primary team colors will consist of navy, gold, and cardinal."
ChicoStater Posted December 15, 2003 Posted December 15, 2003 I'm sorry, but I don't think Dorado when I see that logo...I think Central American tribesman...especially with the A being designed to look like Chichen Itza. But, good choices on colors...I think navy/gold with cardinal highlights will turn out looking nice in a uniform.
TruColor Posted December 15, 2003 Posted December 15, 2003 Hmmm...I realize that the actual shades are a bit different, but Navy, Gold and Cardinal are what the Albany Conquest calls THEIR colors as well...
rozilla74 Posted December 15, 2003 Posted December 15, 2003 I'm a fan of italic typefaces but not in this case. Especially when the temple "A" is a straight on view in the logotype.
yh Posted December 15, 2003 Posted December 15, 2003 Mmmmmmmmm......Dorados. The Cool Ranch ones are the best.Alright, alright, bad joke. This logo isn't too bad. It's interesting that the warrior seems to be a lefty. The color choices are very good. They're certainly ahead of their CHL counterparts the RGV Killer Bees with respect to color and logos.
KCScout76 Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Nitroseed beat me to it. I saw the logo tonight and thought I might get it in first but your too quick for me. Here's a larger version of the logo on my site. cut & paste.http://geocities.com/alckmojo/RioGrandeAre...allDORADOS.htmlNice Job Nitro, being on top of this. I'm waiting for the new coyotes logo now. rtrich11 Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 I just wonder what part of that logo will end up on the helmet. Hopefully not the "A" from the typeface. cafepress.com/artbyrichards
yh Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 I just wonder what part of that logo will end up on the helmet. Hopefully not the "A" from the typeface.I'm taking a stab and guessing they are going to go with a gold helmet with a decal that attempts to replicate the effect of having the elaborate plumage found on the warrior's headgear.
misterhabs Posted December 17, 2003 Posted December 17, 2003 Anyone remember El Dorado from the ethnically diverse and politically correct version of the Super Friends? Maybe they could yank him out of the cartoon mothballs and have him be a mascot or something In all seriousness, however, does anyone have a better copy of the logo? or any idea what the helmets of this, and the other new AF2 teams, will look like?Ben

MrTitan Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 I might be mistaken but isn't that logo very similar to a college team? I'll look it up and get back to you guys.
fiasco! Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 it looks similar to the san diego state aztecs LinkedIn
Brian in Boston Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 I like the uniforms. Classy without being too boring. I might have gone with a slightly stylized numeric font, but the block numbers aren't bad.Brian in Boston
gosioux76 Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 I also like them. But i'm more anxious to see what the helmets look like.
-kj Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 The jerseys look somewhat similar to the LA Avengers' jerseys. Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop!
