Sun Ming Ming is joining the Maryland Knighthawks of the ABA! 7 foot 9 making him the tallest basketball player ever.

He accually has some pretty serious illnesses that stimulates the pituatary(sp?) gland cause the overproduction of the growth hormone and will eventually do to him what it did (or, accually, will do) to Gheorge Muresan.

EDIT: DURR, wait a minute. I think I have Muresan's accual life mixed up with the life of his charictar in that crappy movie he was in. I accually thought he died of "Giantism" or whatever it was But yeah, apparently if Ming Ming's growing condition isnt stopped itll eventually kill him.

He just recently had a tumor on his pituitary gland removed. It was responsible for his ridiculous size, and now that they have removed it, theoretically (if they got all of it) he's done growing.

Actually he was the subject of a show on one of the 4000 Discovery Channels about a month ago. And by coincidence Discovery networks is based in Bethesda which is just down the road from Rockville were the team is based. Well good luck to him and

No, not really. I'd assume every basketball player from college, semipro, the NBDL, and the ABA would like to play in the NBA.

And to be honest, I feel for this guy...the same way I felt when I saw UNC-Asheville's 7'6" Kenny George play. You're among the tallest people on the planet right now. What do 99.9% of people say to a person who's 7'0" or over (I'm sure LMUpepbander can attest to this)? "You should play basketball," assuming that height automatically makes you good. So you're out there on the court...maybe you have skill, maybe you don't, but they stick you in there to intimidate and block some shots. You're at least half a foot taller than everyone else on the court, and everyone's eyes are obviously on you. And when you don't score 30/10 per game like people expected, you're somehow not good enough...nevermind that you're trying to run downcourt with knees that are completely shot and ankles are just a little better than your knees. I find it quite sad, really.

I saw a special about him on TV about a week or so ago. He had to have a bunch of surgeries/treatments on his feet. In China, they didn't have shoes to fit him, so he squeezed into shoes several sizes too small. His toes were actually curled under, with basically no bone(the bone protruded through the skin basically). He had to have his toe bones shaved down. Kinda gross.
