Rays seem ready to dump Devil

Huggermugger, don't waste your breath with this guy....he is omnipotent (or atleast he acts that way) If you told him the world is round he'd find a way to argue that it is flat just to argue. Move on.

Wow thanks, I'm glad you said it. I have had that experience with him as well. Although he will debate everything unless it was posted by Pantone. Then he always agrees.

So toxic! I don't get it. Gothamite makes every effort to treat a lot of nonsense with respect, but somehow his quick wit and ability to reason is demonized as "omnipotence." Why? If you feel like you're losing an argument, either get smarter or stop arguing. That doesn't make those you disagree with bad people.

Can we make that message part of the FAQ or something? It seems to be forgotten too often.

Dukes May Get Chance To Show He Belongs

COLOR-BLIND: The background of the Rays' 2007 marketing campaign is a deep blue. Earlier this week, the team's official Web site changed its color scheme to a mixture of dark and royal blue. The team's new batting practice jerseys and caps have royal blue accents.

It stands to reason that the Rays' new color scheme and uniforms for the 2008 season will feature some shade of blue, right? Not so fast, insisted team president Matt Silverman.

"There is a series of unrelated happenings," he said. "Our marketing campaign has a blue hue to it and we carried over that hue to the Web site, just as we did when we had the 'Under Construction' campaign 16 months ago and the Web site reflected the yellow color of the campaign. That's No. 1.

"No. 2, New Era redesigned the batting practice jerseys and batting practice hats for all teams and they recommended that we highlight the blue that's already in our color palette. That decision was made six to nine months ago and now we're seeing those changes, but they're unrelated to our exploration of the new uniform. Blue may turn out to be a prominent color in our revised color scheme, but no decisions have been made."

Silverman said the team met with Major League Baseball this week to discuss a number of possible color schemes, but reiterated no decision has been made. The Rays must officially notify MLB by March 31 that they are changing their colors and uniforms and have everything finalized by May 31.

Butcher: No regrets on move here, back

THE BLUE RAYS: A change in the color scheme on devilrays.com (to pantones 289 and 293) has fans talking blue about the new uniforms and logos planned for next season. But team president Matt Silverman said the speculation is misplaced, just as it was when long-ago planned additions of blue to the spring jerseys and caps were reported recently.

"It's unrelated to our uniform change," Silverman said. "I can say that with 100 percent certainly because it hasn't been decided."

You're right - that timeline doesn't make any sense.

I'm inclined to believe that the broadcasters were misinterpreted... or the broadcasters provided misinterpreted information.

I would imagine they were referring to the March 31 deadline to inform Major League Baseball of any potential name/color/uniform changes, with a subsequent May 31 deadline to commit to any changes.

Likely. They'd be foolish to kill merchandise sales by announcing new colors / logos early. The last time I think a team did that was the Cavs (but then again they had nothing to lose!)

Now really, do the Rays?

Which is precisely why the timetable may make sense. What else do they have to market in Tampa Bay? And I would bet they are pretty low on the list as far as merchandise sales go anyway so what possible says would they lose. And who says " I think I want a hat, but I hear that a new hat is coming out 12 months from now, so I'll just wait."

They'll buy 2 hats.

Personally, id love it if the D Rays changed their color scheme to match one of the other teams in Tampa. Maybe Red, Orange, Pewter, and Black?

Fair point.

I don't believe you mean that...

...oh wait, you like the bucs?

I would like to know where you got such an unreasonable rumour like that, son.

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

Does anyone know if Tampa notified MLB about changes?

Contrast, boys. The name of the game.

and this doesn't sound like "I know better than you?"

No, it sounds like the answer to a thirty year old question first asked by ABBA.

And to respond to Simpsontide's question above, even if the Rays would have provided notice, chances are very good that such notice would not be released to the public until the Tampa Bay baseball club and Major League Baseball deem it necessary . . . or someone gets lax with their security system.

I haven't seen anything, but it seems highly likely it happened.

Given that you plan to change the team colors and uniforms next season, what does all this blue that's showing up everywhere mean?

I like the color blue. Whatever we've done this year has no bearing on what's going to be in the future.

And what's the name of the team going to be at this time next year?

Something different than it is right now. But most likely not dramatically different.

I found this interesting as well, although I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll be rooting for the Tampa Bay Rays and not the Tampa Bay Stingrays next season.

Tonight's home opener at Tropicana Field will include a variety of improvements, but none more notable to hungry fans than the debut of a signature ballpark hot dog aptly named the Sting 'Em Dog.
