New MLB hat: Gone is 100% wool

Basically, I'm not gonna stop talking about things that need to be talked about just because it ruffles a few feathers. If that bothers you... tough... take your own advice and get over it.

That is what I was doing in the first place.

friend of mine works for new era, gave me one of the new sox poly hats ( not the bp, the actual game style) and as for right now, i dont like it.... its not comfortable, it seems like there might be too much material, and it doesnt seem to take a curve the way i like my hats to...

I am wondering if New Era is making the new caps for three reasons:

1) That they are better for the players perforemance, yada, yada, yada.

2) So that the caps fronts can't be broken down so they retain their shape and the bills can't be curved severely.

3) So that they can sell the low-profile caps.

Personally, I wish that they would have made the new caps in the 5950 style with the material they use in the BP caps.

First of all I thought the sticker was large enough before for people to be forced to take it off. If people are leaving the other sticker on, you know these same people will leave the larger one on. I'm not sure why, but they think it's cool.

I think it goes along with the "thug life" philosophy that New Era has embraced.

- the flat brim

- the size sticker left on

It looks like it was stolen. And, just look at the other lines of "thug life" styles they have.

I was looking at the New Era site yesterday and saw where they now have paisley sweatbands that can be folded down...ala wearing a "do rag" under the cap without actually wearing the "do rag".

I am not sure if they make different color paisley sweatbands (red or blue) yet.

It makes me proud that MLB is associated with such a fine, wholesome company.

The stereotypes and assumptions about the people who wear this stuff are disgusting.

BTW, masking the n-word with "thug" won't make what you're saying any less racist. We cracked that code a long time ago...

Ive seen plently of white thugs who wear the hat in this style.

I personally think it looks stupid to wear the hat with an unbent brim and sticker on, whether your black, white, asian or whatever.

But I dont care if they continue wearing it like that, thats their own choice, while I dont beloeve its based on that they are a true sports fan, but either way thats how they want to wear it, just like how I like to wear my hat the traditional, normal way wiith a curved brim.

By his own definition, white people cannot be thugs, due to a melanin-deficient technical difficulty.

And, can you be a racist if you are African/Asian-American?

Nope. Prejudice [sic]... yes. But not racist.

I want to bash my head against a wall.

I can help ya if you need it. :D

But accually yeah, I agree with you on this one.

I just remembered the [sic] I put in there, so no time like the present for a refresher, friends:

You have bias. You are biased.

You have prejudice. You are prejudiced.

It is impossible to be prejudice. Prejudice is an intangible concept of formulating judgments prior to obtaining necessary information. You are a person. You can be prejudiced. With a D. But you shouldn't, because this is generally looked down upon in society. But I swear, every time I see someone say "oh, you're just bias!" the frustration just grows a little more. If they were to make another common error and hypothetically say "oh, your just bias!", that would be funny, because then they'd be adoring the bias that a person has, which has been construed as being just.

I'm biased against polyester... does that make me evil?

Sorry... had to try to lighten things up (while once again voicing my displeasure at this turn of events)

Why do people keep the size sticker on the caps anyway?

because rappers did it.

i think its just to prove its legit too.

i cant stand seeing someone come in with a black on black yankees and the logo on the back a flat red/white/blue MLB logo(signiture of a fake NE)

not true. people started doing that because its a trend. rappers dont do that. trust me i live in NYC. i know this.

personally i dont bend the bill on my hats i never have and yes, i am african-american if that has anything to do with it and no i dont leave the sticker on my caps and the reason why people do it is not to "stick it to the man" but is just a fad, i dont look down at european-americans who bend their hats or cut the rip in the end to make it look worn i see it as their fad. and also theres no right or wrong way to wear a hat people do what the like or what is their style and i belive we shouldnt critisize people on that cause its the way they feel most comfortable wearing it.

co-sign X100.

ignorance runs wild in this thread. im just sitting back laughing at these post about how people wear their fitteds and where they put their stickers. man this thread shows how isolated and how quick people jump to conclusions in this country. its quite sad , better yet depressing is a more fitting word to describe this.

trends is usually never started by a single person. i live in NYC and mostly everybody wears their fitted with a flat visor and with the sticker on the bottom.

i honestly think the people in this thread who say that its stupid and it make u look like u stole the hat, is ignorant.Period.

i say that because its obivious that NE make the most money in urban areas, thats where the money is at. so why not make fitteds that appeal to large urban markets like NYC. why else would they have a flagship store in NYC? i been to the store many of times and mostly all of the hats is urban base hats. and the people who continue to say these ignorant remarks should goi out more often and realise that every town or city is diffrent.

they find it odd when they see me with stickers and a flat visor, while when i see them i dont really care nor do i make it a big issue. cause in my mind everyone dress diffrent and had diffrent backgrounds to how they wear stuff.

This entire thing may not last long.

I am the Spring Training PA Announcer for the Giants in Arizona. Today I was talking to one of the Media Relations guys about the new caps, and he told me that most of the players don't like them and will still wear the wool caps when the season starts.

There is speculation that these crappy polyester caps may go the way of the "new" NBA ball and not make it through the season.

but the basis of buc's comments are. if rappers started wearing their bill curved. people in those urban markets would start doing the exact same thing. just look at those "SNOWMAN" shirts if someone told you 3 to 5 years ago that would be the hot fashion of last summer, would you really believe them? and if a rapper didnt not endorsed those shirts they would have been the way of the doodoo and the new NBA Ball.

and the reason that NE put their flagship store in NYC is because the sheer number of people in the city and visitors the city gets on a daily basis. it would be kind of dumb not to put it there. because if that store cant work in NYC why would it work in Wilmington NC or Any Town USA?

oh and by the way, old white men have been doing the flat bill for decades.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the pictures of guys eschewing the new BP hats in favor of old hats with the side color panels done with a Sharpie.

I'm most interested in how it fits, and how it retains a fit. I've definitely noticed my wool 5950s getting a little tighter, especially now after pulling them out of the closet over the winter.

I'm not even talking about the BP / Spring Training caps with the side panels...I'm talking about the new polyester 5950's.

The players don't like them...but yeah, I've seen that pic of Jeff Kent with his homemade BP cap. Comedy.

All the Giants are wearing them in the Cactus League games...even Bonds, surprisingly.

From 2003-2006 he didn't wear the stretch fit cap, he wore the older mesh BP cap the past 4 years.

I can tell you firsthand that they retain their fit and shape wonderfully. I have a Tigers hat in the new style that I wear as my beat up cap. Ive worn it while working out, while at concerts (You know how damn hot those can be), while working, and more. Ive tossed the damn thing in the washer and dryer several times, and while the front panels have seperated a bit from the polyester, it still fits like a glove. If I were to do half that with a wool hat it would destroy it. I have both the new D Backs hats in the polyester style and I treat those a lot better than the Tigers hat and they still look brand spankin new.

When they make these new hats, will they be available in wool, or only in polyester?

Will there be a new template available?

Why does RBK want to ruin the baseball hats?

What's all this about the Jets moving to Phoenix?

Do these new hats come in my size? I am a 7 3/4, but an 11-EEE shoe.

Minor Leagues Major Dreams has them at www.minorleagues.com

And about them looking new after wearing and sweating in them...that defeats the entire purpose of having a hat.

A baseball cap truly doesn't look good until it's beat to hell.
