Sports Tickets Stubs

I don't know where I have them now (parent's house, probably) but for Oregon men's basketball's 100th anniversary a couple years ago each different game ticket had a different player from the program's history. For this year, though, they're really generic - the two I picked up for this weekend's games (Wazzu last night and UW tomorrow) are really generically done.

they're also *incredibly* thin - about an inch and a half, tops. I'll get pics of it and the Oklahoma game ticket from this year to compare.

That white part was my address, because I got the tickets by mail. But, I erased it.

232, Row X? Wow, life in the rafters at the Dean Dome. Not a bad view considering how far up you are. It's good to see the tickets look exactly the same 10 years later. :D

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

i save all of my ticket stubs whether they're collectible or not.

Ditto

Which is why I have a ticket from Lemieux's last game when he scored a goal. Lemieux's last game. Sidney Crosby's 100th point. Evgeni Malkin's first game, and Mark Recchi's 10 or 100 thousandth game {dont remember exactly}.

Ok, so Photobucket finally decided to kind of work and it let me upload a few so here they are. Pretty self explanatory, but ill add some detail to the more obsure ones. Sorry about the crappy quality. All I had was my cell phone camera.

So this is about Three quarters of my ticket stubs. The others are still in Costa Mesa

I have nothing particularly exciting, but I have a few that stand out:

1. I have a 1992 ALCS game six stub. The ticket is fairly ho-hum (althougu it does feature the original Jays logo). It has more sentimental value than anything, as it was the Jays' first ever pennant.

I went to one World Series game in 1992, alas, due to my dumb luck, it was game FIVE. Disgusted at the result, and the city for botching the parade announcement, I have that ticket stub away to a kid who was collecting them at the exit.

I'll never get that ticket stub back!

2. I have Pro-Bowl ticket stubs, that are some of the ugliest tickets ever created by man. I was in Hawaii to help support a sports brand, so I got a few of these.

3. I have hundreds of ticket stubs of the Blue Jays from 1985 to early 1993. The nicest of all of these are from item #1. I lost my ALCS stubs from 1985, something I deeply regret.

4. I have attended 30 or so Seahawk games with ticket stubs for each. My two favorites here was the NFC Championship game in 2005, and the game in 2001 where Shaun Alexander ran for 266 yards against the Raiders. I also have the game where he scored 5 touchdowns in one half against the Vikings.

5. The only no hitter I ever intended, a Kevin Gross pitched game agains the Giants from 1992 at Dodger Stadium. The ticket stub is very non-descript but genuine.

6. A few Mariner ticket stubs, only one of real interest, the game where Ichiro "broke" George Sisler's record a few years back for most hits in a season.

7. A few Vancouver Grizzlies ticket stubs, their first ever @ home franchise win, and their one and only win ever against the Sonics @ home.

My favorite:

yzerman_night_tickets.jpg

The top is the actual ticket from the box office, the bottom is the "collectable" version of the ticket given to all the non-season ticket holders who didn't get that one in the first place. The bottom one is slightly cropped, it's bigger than my scanner.

Mark Recchi's 10 or 100 thousandth game {dont remember exactly}.

I guarantee you it's neither of those.

My only season ticket stubs (that I'm supposed to have!) are from the 2007 AHL All-Star Weekend... which the Marlies screwed up so I still don't have the special stubs for them -- but I should get them soon.

I purchased from ebay season ticket stubs from the 1991, 1992, and 1993 ALCS as well as the 1992 and 1993 World Series'.

Kinda neat non-special design ones I have are the last Expos home game, and last Expos game (thanks Tank), the last game at our old arena here in Oshawa as well as the first game in the new arena... I think that's it.

Damn dfwabel, you have some amazing tickets.

I will try to post more this morning, but I am pretty busy all day. I think of those I bought to work, I have a few fights, and more NCAA tournament stubs. Here are some lessons learned.

1-Don't get married or have kids. (While many of you are parents and love your kids, you just lost your teh majority of disposable income).

2-Have connections or good friends. Two of the three Super Bowls I went to had tickets given to my dad, who retired from Anheuser-Busch in 2004. The BCS title games were all from a friend who let's just say has "connections" and got them for face value. As for this year's game, I could not go as the "connection" has lost his freedom.

3-Have a job with pretty good vacation/sick time if you can get it. Most of my jobs have allowed me to work flex time, so extended weekends are not that big of an issue.

Don't have any pics to post since they tickets themselves were boxed up in my move a year ago (and I don't frame 'em or anything). I'm sure there are some others, but I do have some that are interesting and come readily to mind:

-- Super Bowls X through XXVII inclusive, thanks to a cousin who used to work in the original Cleveland Browns front office and got members of the family tickets every year.

-- The Florida Marlins first-ever game in 1993. I drove a U-Haul down from Pennsylvania, essentially backed it up to a gate at Joe Robbie, and filled it with "Opening Day" and "Inaugural Game" memorabilia. My girlfriend (now wife) thought I was certifiable until years later, when she saw a memorabilia guide that showed what the stuff was worth.

-- Every significant heavyweight title fight held on U.S. soil since about 1990 or so.

-- 1996 and 2002 Olympic Games opening ceremonies.

and one that's kind of obscure, but a personal favorite:

-- A 1978 game at which (1) it was announced that Pope John Paul I had died, and (2) Willie Stargell became Major League Baseball's all-time strikeout leader, surpassing Mickey Mantle (a record since broken).
