Let's not forget the run by Hollwegg that started this!!!! Anyone who has played or watch the game would know that Hollwegg threw a dirty hit!!!! If Simon gets 10 then Hollwegg should get 5!!!

I love when people come on here and make jokes.

I am not the most knowledgeable hockey person around and when I saw the Hollwegg hit, I could not decide if it was legal. Even if it was not, it's a two minute penalty case closed.

This was battery with a weapon. A felony if it happens on the street. You don't get suspended for roughing or checking from behind. You do for swinging a stick at someone's head.

Your right your not a knowledgeable hockey person..I'll leavit at that!!!!!!

You're an idiot. Clean hit, all the way.

The only idiot is you!!! Clean hit all the way eh? clean if you mean hit from behind, but that is most likely how you like it right?

Came from behind, hit him shoulder-to-shoulder.

Was the rest of your "reply" meant to bait the homophobic? If so, it didn't work.

Also, please learn to spell "leave it." Two words, two E's. Thanks.

I wish I was. Then I'd understand why a check that some people think was illegal and others do not warrants a five game suspension.

I heard Simon got hit with a 25 game suspension. Serves him right!!

Learn to read the thread, Captain Obvious...

From the Department of Foregone Conclusions, Simon is done for the year:

Simon Suspended At Least 25 Games

IMO he should get all of next year too; this doesn't mean squat because the season's just about over and the Isles are in the crapper anyway.

I have a question though. I've only seen the video of the hit and nothing afterwards. Did anyone on the entire Rangers team go after Simon? Why wasn't he bloody on the way to be escorted off the ice? This is why thing like this can occur. The player who commits the act knows that the teammates will do nothing. If I was Hollweg's teammate, I would of gone after Simon. I don't care if I get suspended with Simon or I get a penalty for it.

But that's just me. That's how I play the game. Stand up for your teammates even if it means you neck.

With the mini flame war that ensued after, I don't think anyone really addressed this one. But to answer your question, yes, people on the Rangers did something. Karel Rachunek went over and got in Simon's face and all the players on the ice went over and kinda pushed and shoved. Problem was it was so far behind the play that guys like Avery and Orr that would've done more damage to Simon weren't near the play, and the closest guy was Rachunek who is not quite known for his "toughness". Further problem is that in today's NHL if guys paired off or really attacked Simon they'd get the book thrown at them as well and probably nullify a five-minute major powerplay in a tie game with about six minutes left in the third. Credit Rachunek though - he did get his nose dirty and looked ready to fight Simon if others hadn't come over.

And in the video, all the refs immediately made a mad dash for Simon and were very much taking control of the situation before it got too out of hand.

Nolan: Suspension to harsh

Ted Nolan thinks the suspension isn't fair. He get's 25 games for 2 handing someone to the head and it's unfair? I think Hollwegg took a little bit of a dive, and that Simon didn't get him as good as he would've liked. The intent to injure was still there though and the fact that it resemble the whole McSorley incident warranted a length suspension.

Also though they'll likely get in, last time I checked the Isles were in 7th and the teams chasing in 10th were only 4 points back. They haven't made it there yet so that's a bold statement to make. They are likely better off without him anyways.

Honestly, what do you expect Nolan to say about his own player?

"Yeah, that's perfect, hell, I woulda given him 40?"

The coach has to defend his player, if not the player's actions.
