You see after all that complaining, these unis actually please all of us. Even though I'm not a chargers fan (I root for KC) these have got to be if not the best, one of the best unis in the NFL. Good going San Diego.

College sports as we know them are just about dead. The lid is off on all the corruption that taints just about every major program and every decision that the schools or the NCAA make is only about money, money, and more money. We'll have three 16+ team super-conferences sooner rather than later, killing much of the regional flair and traditional rivalries that make college sports unique and showing the door to any school that doesn't bring money to the table in the process. Pretty soon the smaller schools are going to have to consider forming their own sanctioning body to keep the true spirit of college sports alive because the NCAA will only get worse in it's excess from here

Is there anyone on this board who wishes they would have gone with a gray facemask (a la the Cardinals)?

The fact that the Chargers didn't do that will allow me to sleep peacefully at night (at least until the next team thinks of reintroducing the gray).

I'm 90% of the way there, except that (at the risk of beating a dead horse) unless they go white on white or navy on navy, the bolt/stripe won't match.

Gray facemasks must be destroyed.

I take back the things I said. The light blue looks better than the navy. The navy just looks odd because I'm used to seeing it with a navy helmet. The only potential flaws I see would be a white wordmark on the white jersey and navy socks with navy pants. I'm glad we don't see the bolt above the nameplate, side helmet numbers, or a gray mask. I might have liked to see the removal of the white panels around the navy jersey's bolts, but like the navy helmet, it's probably because I'm used to seeing the jersey another way. I'll await the full photo show. I still think the navy helmet would be the best to go with all three though.

I will respectfully disagree, good sir. I'm not saying a gray (grey?) facemask would have been a better choice in this case, but I wouldn't have minded it. I have no problem with them in most instances, particularly when a team is going for something of a throwback look (e.g., the Colts).

Ok thats fine. But its mixing the stupid grey mask with a modern uni design that annoys me to no end.

That's what I was trying to get at. I am fine with the Browns reintroducing the gray, but this is a modern design, and a gray facemask could have ruined it (much the same way it ruins the Cards' new look for me).

The more I see the full pictures, the more impressed I am with this update.

The Chargers, in their best uniform years, have always had that iconic bolt logo on the helmet, jersey and pants. This update retains that. The curve on the pants stripe is pretty subtle - it looks less curved than say the California or Oregon basketball uniforms. I can live with the white helmet, but I think it pops better with the powder blue alternate than with the navy jersey.

As someone who's memory goes back to the AFL era, I love the return of the white insert on the blue jerseys. I've missed that for the past 19 years. The only real miss to me is that Vikings-style collar. They should have gone with a collar more like the Cardinals (and like what they had in the 1986-87 "transition" uniforms, at least on the white jerseys).

I'll admit to never being on the powder blue bandwagon; I've posted many times my personal favorite was the latter Air Coryell era (the dark royal, yellow pants with the bolt look). However, this is a nice update for that look as well, and I wouldn't mind them pulling a "Falcons" and switching to the powder blues as the "regluar" home look and using the navy blues as the alternate - although if they did this they should convert the white jersey set to powder blue trim as the primary and use powder blue pants.

Maybe Spanos will finally listen to the fans - here is a chance to vote with your wallet and buy more of the powder blues than the navy blues.

This is turning out really well! It's pretty much what a lot of people had been suggesting:

1. Leaving navy as the main color and adding baby blue to the yellow as a trim color.

2. Making the bolt yellow

I don't know how many people thought a white helmet would work, but I'm surprised at how well it does. This looks really clean and classy, yet modern at the same time. Well done.

I absolutely love the old uni's... and at first I was skeptical when I saw these. But they're growing on me... I'm sure once I see them in action, they will establish themselves as one of the best in the league, just as their old set was.

Way to go San Diego!

The helmet will kill this look. The unis look great. The Chargers knew they had to upgrade and somehow add a hint of powder blue.

I disagree the white helmets are great...AND remember, the new white helmets are METALLIC white...very different.

IN addition, they will have the numbers large on the back of the helmet, closer to the crown. They will not be on the side like the throwbacks they've worn recently.

Since they'll wear three uniforms again, these will look nice with the metallic helmet. Imagine a silver helmet...but white...you will all like it.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but when I look at this all I see is clutter.

Blue face mask on white helmet. Not good.

White collar. Why.

NFL plate. (which league is this, again).

Chargers wordmark. (Why? The bolts don't give it away?)

The number font. Goofy and cartoon-like.

The uncertain direction of the shoulder bolt on a white panel that just stops when it should come all the way around to the armpit---I know, I know--modern cuts!--still, it looks incomplete.

I think the inclusion of powder blue trim (I find more than one trim color excessive) was done to placate fans of the old powder blues. Cheap.

Should have left good enough alone.

You do know that both the Titans & Dolphins sport a 'metallic' white helmet, same as the Chargers boast about.

If they put a gray facemask on that beautiful uniform then it would've ruined the whole thing. It already ruined my opinion of the Cardinals (Modern uniform design + gray facemask = WTF?).
