It's a nice update, but the shoulder logos (and even the pants) are quilty of pulling off one thing I've always hated regarding this (and even Tampa Bay Lightning concepts I've seen):

When you have a logo that is very long, or easily elongatable, (like the lightning bolts on the shoulders and pants of the Chargers uniforms) if the logo acts as a substitute for a stripe, do NOT place it in a stripe anyways!. The navy blue jersey they had until now was perfect because it didn't use this extra, completely unnecessary stripe that all other jerseys the Chargers used did, and because of this unnecessary stripe, I felt them to be flaw.

turning the helmet navy would turn this set from "meh its ok" to "wow great update"

Well, it does balance out the AFC West a bit better. Plus, at least its not powder

The fact that they would have been announced and that Mickey Lommis said so on his radio show mid season, all that beside the dishonesty of a poster here who mad up a great story about a change. If I'm wrong I'll gladly eat craw

I don't get that upset about it (at least not as much as some) but IMO using "we" makes you sound like a little kid dreaming of being on the team, not an adult who recognizes that the team is just a private organization (with one maybe two exceptions) of which you are a customer. Of course I feel the same way about adults who get team jerseys with their name on the back. Usually these are the same people who allow sports to play too big of a role in their lives, but that doesn't apply to everyone. I had a roommate who was a Redskins fan who when discussing football with me would talk like "you guys have a good line, but we have so-and-so, so we should beat you guys." That drove me nuts.

I am an employee of a team, and still don't use "we" when discussing them. We should be reserved for the uniformed players, coaches, and football-operations-related front-office personnel.

No matter how bad you want to be in that uniform and be one of the guys, you aren't now, and never will. Get over it. "You wouldn't make it in pro football." /mini rant.

Still seems like much ado about nothing to me. It's just a way of identifying affection for a team.

As much as I've always loved the Chargers' powder blue set, I always had a problem with the white helmets. That is, lightning bolts come out of the sky. Has anyone seen the sky white, except maybe when it's snowing?

Or am I being too picky here?

I am undecided about this switch, but I am leaning to a thumbs down. The Chargers had one of my favorite uniforms and now they just kind of look like everyone else. I don't like the new pants, at least the ones that they show making the slow S curve from the butt. I don't like where they moved the the shoulder bolts, now it looks too cluttered. The fact that the shoulder bolts will always have to be in a seperate block bothers me and on top of that they dump off a throwback and replace it with an ordinary alternate.

I just wish every so often a team could just realize what they have before they go on some mad tangent to fix what isn't broken.

When was the last time you saw a...

Navy and Gold Ram head

A Purple Raven

A Jaguar with a teal tounge

A red, white and blue bull head

A dolphin wearing a football helmet

a blue buffalo

a blue lion

So yeah, slightly nitpicky :P

I think the new Chargers unis in a way were made to keep everyone happy. They kept the navy, which the owner loves, they added powder blue which should make fans happy, white helmets that typically go with the powder blue unis, which probably makes fans even happier and they made the unis out of new Reebok fabric, which should make Reebok happy and generates sales. Too bad when you try to make everyone happy, someone, somewhere, gets lost in the equation and won't be happy.

College sports as we know them are just about dead. The lid is off on all the corruption that taints just about every major program and every decision that the schools or the NCAA make is only about money, money, and more money. We'll have three 16+ team super-conferences sooner rather than later, killing much of the regional flair and traditional rivalries that make college sports unique and showing the door to any school that doesn't bring money to the table in the process. Pretty soon the smaller schools are going to have to consider forming their own sanctioning body to keep the true spirit of college sports alive because the NCAA will only get worse in it's excess from here

You know, that blue compromise looks terrible, especially on the helmet. It's the owner's team and he has the right to do with the colors as he pleases, but come on.

Most of his fan base and most sports fans in general seem to prefer the powder blue. I know this because Chris Berman works himself into a lather every time they pull them out.

Like jus2dam says above, please everyone can sometimes please no on, and in this case, I'm not pleased. Again, the owner can do with his team as his pleases, but keeping navy blue -- a color nearly universally hated by everyone else -- just to appease his fragile sensibilities is a damn shame.

I think the Jets got it right back in 1998 and the Chargers could have gotten it right with this update. I'm not saying that a complete reversal to the powder blues would have been the best choice, but half-assing it isn't so great either.

For those of you thinking the bolt on the shoulders is backwards, I think you're just reading it wrong and used to the old bolt.

This stripe simply heads to the way shoulder pads work now. Rather than coming straight down on the shoulders, the stripe will be more on the side of the top of the arm, and thuse, it works.

I like these A LOT.

A Purple Raven

Actually, ravens have a very distinct purple sheen in the light (I'd post a picture if I had time to find it, as I have done before), . . . but I get your point.

its an OK set that could have been much better.

Ive allready stated that it needs a navy helmet, but also the light blue looks forced onto these uniforms. Its as if the designer tried too hard to appease both the "throwback crowd" with the "modern crowd"

when you try too hard to satisfy everybody, you end up satisfying nobody.

that being said, a navy helmet and all removal of light blue would make this a great set.
