San Diego Charger Uni changes?

Recommended Posts

From what I've seen (and I'm telling you the truth when I say that I haven't seen everything), I like it.

No more - at least for the foreseeable future - throwbacks.

IMO - the most overrated uni set in sports.

Honestle, the update was a lot better than I had anticipated, but the addition of the powder blue, the white helmet, and the white stripe around the shoulder were totally unnecessary.

In fact ALL the changes were unncessary.... :cursing:

Any shots of the helmets yet?

With all due respect, did you even bother to read the linked article in the SD Union-Tribune?

The bolts on the helmets and jerseys will be framed in the powder blue, which many fans have said should be the team's primary color. The Chargers will continue to wear their powder blue uniforms twice each season.

?The powder blue hasn't gone away,? Steeg said. ?It's now part of the color scheme. It was not before.?

Dude, PANTONE's got more of a heads up than almost anyone on this board. If he says the throwbacks are (possibly) gone than its prbably true.

Dude, that is exaclty why I said "wth all due respect"...read the quote from the article. Sorry but it seems like the SD Union Tribune has a more heads up on this deal than Pantone.

I don't care for the numeral font, but otherwise they're okay. At least the white shoes are apparently being retained. Curious to see how the side stripes wrap around.

With "all due respect" have you read the article on THE OFFICIAL CHARGERS WEBSITE?:

The redesigned bolt will be featured on a new metallic-white helmet. The three redesigned jerseys will follow the same color scheme as those in the past. The Chargers will continue to wear navy jerseys with white pants for most home games and white jerseys with navy pants on the road. The redesigned Powder blue jerseys with white pants will be worn on special occasions at home.

I'm taking from this that there will be a new set pf Powder Blue/Collegiate Blue jerseys - most likely a mirror of the new Navy jerseys that will eliminate the need for separate helmets as has been the case since 2002.

I didn't pull this from my butt, ya know.

It seems pretty clear from everything that has been posted that the powder blue *throwbacks* will be replaced with powder blue *alternates*.

Pantone don't you think them having a powder blue alt they are still going to wear will make them have to have two sets of white pants. The revised powder blue jerseys would look ridiculous with the white pants we have seen(with the navy blue stripe). Maybe this is one aspect of the unis they say they are still working on like the article says? you know anything?

Ah, apparently member #7,459 hasn't been around long enough to know you have an excellent reputation for accuracy. I hope you didn't turn too many pantones of red, Pantone.

Besides, we really don't need pulling things out of their butts. That's disgusting! :D

Ironic that with all changes being made, there apparently still isn't any secondary logo.

There's no "insider" info involved here. I just read the article on the Chargers' site and made a fairly educated guess about the Powder Blues.

As far as the pants go, I have no idea. I have a fear (unsubstantiated) that they might put some godawful Navy side panel on the jerseys to match up with the pant stripe, but hopefully not.

I'll be honest - all I've seen are the logos and wordmarks. Nothing that all of you haven't already seen. However, I do have one other prediction - which may or may not take place - is that the modified "bolt" primary logo will end up on the back neck of the jerseys. Like the Cardinals and Vikings.

Just another guess.

its an OK set that could have been much better.

Ive allready stated that it needs a navy helmet, but also the light blue looks forced onto these uniforms. Its as if the designer tried too hard to appease both the "throwback crowd" with the "modern crowd"

when you try too hard to satisfy everybody, you end up satisfying nobody.

that being said, a navy helmet and all removal of light blue would make this a great set.

I'll second that. I've never been a passenger on the powder blue bandwagon that some talking heads get their panties in a bunch over, but if they're going to throw it in as an accent stripe in a couple places on the primaries to placate the masses and trot out an alternate, so be it. For my money, their best look was when the blue was royal and the pants and facemask were athletic gold. And Dan Fouts was slinging it to Kellen Winslow (the one who could actually play and didn't say a bunch of stupid :censored: all the time).

I'm still going to have to be sold in the white helmets. Making the bolt gold was a good move, but even with the outline stripes, I don't know that there'll be enough contrast to make the bolts pop on the sides of the helmet. At least they had the sense to go with a navy facemask; a gold facemask would look great on a navy helmet, but dreadful on a white one.

As uni updates go, it's pretty solid. The numbers are an upgrade (although I always like the way the Chargers outlined their block numbers), the golden bolts are a huge upgrade, and they didn't completely ruin anything else (not crazy about stripes coming from the butt).

Let's hope you're wrong there, because that seems like it would be awfully redundant with the bolts on the shoulders and helmet too. But overall I actually think (for a change) this update kicks ass

That's a fantastic uniform update. I was kind of iffy on how it'd look with a white helmet, but I think it will look great. I actually like the two points on the lightning bolts as opposed to the eight. It looks so much more like a lightning bolt than it did.

From the Union-Tribune article...

The Chargers did shorten the lightning bolt on their jersey pants in 1992, and every team besides the Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders has made at least one alteration to its uniform in that time, including expansion franchises in Jacksonville and Cleveland.

What changes have the Chiefs and Redskins made since '92? They can't be referring to pants color choice (with white jerseys), because the Bears have changed theirs over that time.

Well the Chiefs re-introduced red pants (I guess that counts) and the Redskins slightly altered their sleeve stripes (relegating them to only the cuffs, with only the occasional QB exception.) I guess that's what they mean, unless they're counting the 70th ani. uniforms. I'm more curious as to what Carolina has changed in that time.

I'm not sure if this is what they're referring to, but in the last couple of seasons some Panthers players have sported "logo-less" pants.
