Cardinals to wear World Series patch for home games

I still think the two Major Leagues should have their own presidents, and not just the old people they trot out as "honorary presidents" after teams win the pennants. The umpires should be kept separate too, as long as that would mean the AL gets Froemming. (I also liked the AL and NL hats, but my real initiative is to keep Bruce Froemming away from the North Side.)

I saw the jerseys in the store Friday. I have to admit they look amazing. The guy was willing to make a deal on one because it had a small snag on the shoulder, but my wife wouldn't let me get it. For all you guys that are still single: If you get married make sure you have a separate checking account for times like this when you have a chance to buy something, but your wife just doesn't understand.

Also, they had a full line of equipment with the patch and gold outline. Including warm up shirts and even sweatshirts that the players wear on cold days. Even though no one will need it in April in St. Louis.

TheOldRoman strikes me as the guy that posts at White Sox Interactive and says "in yesterday's Trib, the Sox beat reporter had 500 words and the Cubs reporter had 509! I counted! CUBUNE!!! CUBUNE!!!"

No, sorry. That is not me. But I would expect that you aren't dumb enough to believe that there is no bias in the Tribune's coverage of the teams. It would be horrible business for them to treat them equally. Would Coke mention in a commericlal how so many people love Pepsi? But we have strayed from the topic. Attendance still isn't relevant. It is nothing to beat your chest over.

Of course there's bias. I don't let it bother me. The Tribune owns the Cubs, and its circulation tends to be stronger in areas where Cub fandom dominates. It's giving the readers what they want to read. Let the Sun-Times worry about the Sox and give the Cubs the finger. I don't care. I don't read the Sun-Times.

I find it funny that players who weren't on the team last year, and who may never appear in a world series are wearing the world champs patch and special jerseys. I know you can't exclude anyone from a promotion, but I would feel really awkward if I was some guy who just signed as a FA a few months ago.

I'm not speaking of a bias in terms of the amount of coverage, although that is an issue. The coverage of the Cubs is always bright and rosey, while the Sox are always inches from doom. A few years ago, a drunken non-baseball fan from Blue Island ran on the field and attacked a first base coach. The Tribune is still running updates on this drunken moron in the SPORTS section. William Ligue was picked up for stealing a car stereo? Let's run a rehash story about it. They even sank to running a story about his son (not the co-attacker) getting arrest for something random, over 4 years after the indicent. Of course, it was in the sports section, on the Sox section of their website. And of course, they gave a lengthy recap of the attack, even though it had nothing to do with the story.

When someone was murdered after a Cubs game a few years ago, it was buried in the middle of the Metro section (it was the lead story of every news broadcast). In positive human interest fluff pieces, the area is "Wrigleyville". When they are writing about rapes and murders in the area, it is "Lakeview". Needless to say, there are no monthly updates of the Cubby murderer. They don't run "where are they now" pieces on the Cubs fan (who was actually a Tribune employee) who stole Chad Krueter's hat and started a brawl with the Dodgers. They don't run recaps several years later about the Cubs fan who ran on the field and attacked Randy Myers.

Phil Rogers chastised the Sox for being a horrible organization and slashing payroll this offseason. He called Kenny Williams "despicable" for trading Garcia and the "seasoned veteran" McCarthy. The Sox payroll purge resulted in their payroll actually going up. Who knew? Rogers wasn't nearly as critical of Jim Hendry for throwing monopoly money at horrible pitchers.

Unlike the Red Sox, who have no gold in their color scheme at all, with the yellow bat and beak on the front, this actually looks like it belongs, and both my wife and I thought it looks great tonight(even when the team doesn't). I have no real vested interest in the Cards, but I wouldn't mind seeing it become a permanent addition to the uniforms, as it REALLY makes the numbers pop when you're watching them.

The gold trim just made Rolen ground into a double play with the bases loaded and representing the tying run. Cubs start the season half a game up. I'll take it.

Annnd thank you Bud Selig.

Step one of your master plan to somehow get the Brewers to muddle into the division title is complete.

Worse, the gold trim actually made the opponent better. Rolen hit that ball well and could have had a 2 run single, but that darn gold trim increased the ability of Valentine (and his ugly porn stache) to make a phenominal play.

Or just marry someone who thinks you should spend your own money any way you please.
