timparry
I think most of the people frequenting this site are indeed sticklers for authenticity, as am I. However, I can't imagine anyone with the taste to buy a hat this fugly could be sticklers for much of anything.I can't wait for the time, 20 years from now, when everyone looks back at these hats with 8 zillion different logos on them and puts them in the same fashion category as Zubaz pants.Yeeeeeeeeah! Fred T. Jane
(Or maybe I'm projecting here: My ultimate alt-uniform dream is for the Nats to have alt mascot caps with cartoon George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Teddy Roosevelt in baseball poses like the Lake County Captains cap logo. Not fashion caps for fans, but actual game alt caps. And not all four together, but four different caps, with one president each, two in red and two in blue.)Oh man, I'd so want those. I'd beat you to be first in line. If you were there first, I'd taser you get in front of you. [Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008 Attention: In order to obtain maximum enjoyment from your stay at the CCSLC, the reader is advised that the above post may contain large amounts of sarcasm, dry humour, or statements which should not be taken in any true sort of seriousness. If that's the hat you want and you wear hats like that, it's your prerogative. Heck, I look at some caps I wore in the early 90s and late 80s and I'm like, I wore THAT? larrypep
This is the one that drives me nuts! That is not the proper SD logo on the Padres cap, it's a bastardization of San Diego State's "SD" and Roman Pro put out a "Cooperstown Cap" in the late 80s with this design. Somehow, every fricking manufacturer including New Era used this template
Gothamite
Yep, that's the problem. A mistake gets made, and then mistake is used as the template for years to follow. The Milwaukee Braves caps (and the first version of the Brewers) have this problem as well. Almost nobody uses the correct skinny "M", instead they use this really thick M that's too wide.Makes me wish that Mitchell & Ness still made authentic caps - they were the only company to actually get these things right. I have yet to see a correct retro Padres 84 cap, but New Era is getting closer. They have the correct SD but the yellow triangle is still way too large. Ferdinand Cesarano
This is the one that drives me nuts! That is not the proper SD logo on the Padres cap...I guess you are referring to the notches on the S, right? Is this another case (like the Yankees and Tigers) of the cap logo being different from a jersey logo? Because it seems that the Padres did have those notches on the logo that appeared on the warmup jersey. Padres batting practice pitcher Dan DixonBut, no notches on the cap logo:(For some reason, this jpg image lacks a valid extension, like .jpg, and therefore the board's code won't let me insert it. So click here for a nice shot of Tony Gwynn.)By the way, Chris shows the notched version as one of the Padres' cap logos:

Somehow that BP jersey made it onto the retro caps and that bugs me. To this date nobody can accuratelyreplicate the Padres 84 caps.
RyanB06
American Needle is crapola. They might be, but they're the only ones that I've seen that have ever gotten the "B" on the 1946 Red Sox cap in the right style and the right material (it's layered felt, not embroidered). Here's the poor-excuse New Era version:And for comparison, this is the correct version: Â Sodboy13 said: As you watch more basketball, you will learn to appreciate the difference between "defense" and "couldn't find the rim with a pair of bloodhounds and a Garmin." meet the new page, not the same as the old page. Gothamite
Yeah, I'd have to say that American Needle is much, much more authentic than New Era. Add to that New Era's serious quality control issues and I don't think there's much comparison between them. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. CubsFanBudMan
Not sure why it took me so long, but I finally found this:When Majestic first pulled their $50 screenprinted throwback collection (2001ish?), they replaced it with actual patches on jerseys they then sold for $150. Only problem was, they pulled the logo seen on the cap above out of nowhere and put it on the 1980s Cubs road blue. The actual secondary logo, of course, was the one seen at left under my name. The one above was a strange combo of it and its predecessor, and sadly spread like wildfire. But it ain't real.

They should curve from the base of the cap to a point at the button.
