First I'd seen that. Is that gray/silver piping with the white on the sleeves and neckline? Interesting choice.

As far as the Dodgers, I saw that change when they introduced Pierre and it looked like a major upgrade to me when you see it with the red number. I was surprised I liked it better, but the white outline and blue center piping made it a bit to busy. Nothing wrong with simple. And I never liked the full Dodgers script on the sleeve, even though the LA seems unnecessary.

So they did.

Strange how such a small change can result in a huge upgrade.

Steinbrenner, are you paying attention?

Putting the NOB back on the Dodgers jerseys=good.

Removing the 2nd and 3rd color from the Dodgers jerseys=bad.

They took a sweet looking road jersey and made it blah.

This is the antithesis of an upgrade.

At least I won't have to buy one when the game-useds become available.

Also, aren't the Yankee$ road uniforms BORING enough as it is?

To thell you the truth, I hate the Dodgers, and even I gotta admit the new roadie looks slick, even though the white LA on the hats look a bit out of place now. But I think the Yanks wouldnt look good without the white outline. I like the somewhat unique sleeves they have and to ditch the white outline would unbalance the set.

Ugh. I hate the Yankees road sleeves. Give me the classic look any day.

Same here!! Those Yankees road sleeve bands REALLY need to go, and I agree that they also need to follow the Dodgers lead and just go with navy letters, no white. To me, the white outline and armbands on the Yankees roads are the equivalent of what Steinbrenner did to Yankee Stadium in 1976 - taking something classic and bastardizing it in the name of making it modern.

The white outline might be gone, but I would guess that jersey will still have a red jersey number on the front.

... They also put the "LA" sleeve patch on the roads, replacing the "Dodgers" script.

This alone makes it an upgrade. The LA is kind of redundant since it is on the hat, but the Dodgers script was in my eyes beyond any shadow of a doubt the worst-looking sleeve decoration in MLB.

They've made my 2nd favorite jersey in the league even better(however, not enough to surpass the Tigers home), although I suppose I've technically got a throwback hanging in my closet now.

Before '99, I had been saying for years that they should switch back to Los Angeles on the roads. I was thrilled when it happened.

But this is a major upgrade, moreso than I could have imagined.

I just wish they had kept the piping around the collar and down the buttons. I could do without the sleeve logo (they're obviously going for a retro look, so why is this necessary?) but it's not a big deal--I'd rather it be an LA than the Dodgers script.

For comparison:

I hadn't noticed that they dropped the front piping. I kinda wish they had kept it, too. Don't miss the blue buttons - those were always a bit much for me.

Why would that be a "retro look"? The LA sleeve patch is a very modern invention.

Not sure if Lou Piniella has a different policy, but in the past the Cubs starters picked the jersey color, so Zambrano was always blue and so were many others. Usually Prior, Wood and Maddux were the ones to wear the pinstripes at home -- which I very much prefer -- but they're all gone from the starting rotation in one form or another (or should be soon). Not sure what the new guys will do, but I hope at home it's pinstripes.

I've noticed that Z's been wearing the pinstripes in Mesa, but I don't know if that's a change of heart or just club policy for spring training.

Obviously, Marquis and Lilly are unknowns when it comes to jersey preference, as they're new to the team. I don't remember what Miller wore in his starts last year. Hill, I'm pretty sure, is a pinstripes guy.

good job Dodgers, get rid of the white outline(which makes sense), and keep the red number(which makes NO sense). way to go.

I agree with you, but the traditionalists will make you pay for speaking your thoughts like this. I believe the white makes the letters stand out and the red numbers make NO sense. I don't care if it's in the little Dodger logo that's NOWHERE on the jersey and I don't care if that's how they did it in 1745.

Zambrano has worn the pinstripes at home during spring training at least since 2004. If it's Cubs policy, I hope it carries over into the regular season.

Hasn't that been the design for the Yankee road unies for 30-some years? Not exactly a modern interpretation. I've always liked the road unies, outlines and all. To me if you just had New York on the front without outlines and arm bands, it would be too plain. Same with the old Red Sox road unies with plain block BOSTON on the fronts. And I get the same feeling with the new Dodgers' road unies. Plain and drab, nothing special, and probably an overall downgrade from last year's uni.
