Frank Chance was manager of Chicago's National League franchise when it officially adopted the Cubs nickname in 1907.

The first manager in overall franchise history was Albert G. Spalding, who guided the franchise in the National League's inaugural season of 1876. At the time, the team was known as the Chicago White Stockings.
