JQK
Came across this during my endless hours of searching the web for porn and games... Since we have many Canadians, and Ontarians (i think that's what Ontario people are called, Chris, help me out with that) on this board, and many Americans on this board, i think this is a really good topic to discuss. What if Ontario became a state?OntarioUSA

shiznit1083
Very interesting, however it would never fly. Also, if this would be the case, why not add the rest of Canada and let Quebec be there own country.
JQK
Well, in reading into all the sections of the website, they present some of the problems, and some of them i think are really too big to overcome, but like i said, this was simply for discussion. It seems very well thought out, and also, what would the impact on the economy, politics, social issues, culture be?...As long as your state song isn't anything from Sum41 or Avril Lavigne, i think i'd be ok with it... tmorss9
Like Joel said, being in detroit, I always considered Windsor a suburb. Going to Canada wasn't much different than going to Ohio (aside from clearing customs and exchanging money). Personally, I went to high school with a group of Canadians that commuted over here every day, and I spent most of my weekends for 4 years at their homes in Ontario. To this day we all have a strange "dual patriotism" toward both countries. That said, I not only think this would never happen, I hope it never does happen. The US really doesn't need to add Ontario for any reason whatsoever, and even considering it is absurd. Strangely enough, though, its an interesting thought. winters in buffalo
We pretty much had the same attitude in Western NY. Visiting Ontario was nearly as easy as crossing state lines. However, while the Niagara region feels much like any American tourist area, you become more aware of being in another country when travelling further into Ontario. While the site makes a good arguement for Ontario becoming a part of the US, the Province is essential to the viabilty of Canada. Losing Ontario would be an econmic disaster for Canada, and would create a major geographic divide between provinces. If Ontario joined the Union, it would only make sense for the rest of Canada to do the same. I can't imagine the support to do so ever materializing.I would love to be able to pack up and move to Toronto without leaving my home country behind, but it would be only for that selfish reason that I could ever support any part of Canada joining the US. I also forgot that Canadians have all their teeth, and that I've never been pulled over in Canada just for having MI license plates. ahhh yes... the smell in Ohio... not quite like they do in Wisconsin, but the word still apply... smell the derrierre.
