Ottawa looks like a deer caught in the high beams of a speeding semi truck. Looks like the cup is gonna stay in the US.

Maybe, but we're still the best in the world.

But hey, lets not let facts get in the way of some good old non-traditional market Canuck bashing, right buc-o?

After 1994 Playoffs the NHL had potential for great growth it was expanding in new markets and had one of the greatest postseasons in NHL history.

It had for the first time in eons a good deal to be on Network TV (Fox) I know its Fox but Fox was just right for the NHL, and now look how Fox has grown.

It had No Baseball Playoffs in October, traditionally the start of the NHL season is ignored because it starts against the playoffs and World Series.

So he calls for a lock out at the absolute worst possible time.

Fans starved for sports could have watched these early season hockey games and given the NHL more exposure. Just think back to those weekdays in October 1994 what that was like and tell me after the World Series was spiked you would not have loved a hockey game.

This lock out wiped out the momentum created by the 1994 playoffs and hurt the TV deal with Fox before it ever even started.

Then there came over expansion and content tinkering of rules that have made the sport harder to watch for traditional fans.

Meanwhile ESPN did no marketing for them, Bettman should have been marketing his game better, and making arrangements with ESPN to get this done. But noooooooooooooo he wanted bullets to shoot at the NHLPA during the abandoned 2004/05 season.

Then after the lockout he signs a deal with the Witness Relocation Channel aka OLN aka Vs. Sammy the Bull Grevano can go on Vs. give his address and stand in front of his house and still be safe from the Gotti family because nobody will know he did it.

Still on NBC which ain't a bad deal its a major network the NHL is doing a piss poor job marketing itself. Remember Bettman's background is marketing he has faield and thus he has failed as Comish.

Hell thats an understatement.

I hereby declare:

GARY BETTMAN IS THE WORST COMISH IN THE HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS

So what that article is telling me is that OLD RERUNS OF MAMA'S FAMILY gets better ratings than the Stanley Cup?

This is a sad story. I guess I'll have to join the "cool crowd" and start watching Mama's Family then.

This quote has become the inspriation of my new sig :D

I saw, I came, I left.

Way to let the light of that inferiority complex shine just that much brighter there bro. Looks like someone needs a hug. And howabout this fact? Ottawa is still getting steam rolled, no matter if they're from Ottawa, Orlando, or freakin Oslo, Norway. But hey, lets not let silly little facts like score get in the way of our undaunting patriotism eh? :flagcanada:

Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Oh and BTW, Emery just let another goal go by.

Oh and BTW, Emery just let another goal go by.

An own-goal, no less.

That god-awful sucking sound you hear coming out of southern California is the Senator-mobile burning off its last bit of fumes, I'm afraid.

Oh well, at least that means I can say my team got knocked out in the first round by the eventual Cup winners.

and Alfie brings them within one again, and hte Ducks get it back...

I still think the Ducks are going to win the series at this point. I give them credit, they've done extremely well recently, and I really haven't heard much credit given to them. 3 final four appearences in the past 4 seasons, 2 finals, and it looks like 1 Cup.

Wow. So the Sens have finally started to wake up, but it seems like every time something goes well for them Anaheim counters it two seconds later with something even more impressive.

If the Ducks win, I will be happy to see a number of Players get their 1st cup. Rob N, Selanne, Giguere, and future superstars Getzlaf, Perry, McDonald...

I hope that own-goal doesn't end up standing as the cup-winner. That would be the worst cup-winner in history.

As I mentionned earlier, it wouldn't be the 1st time this happens in the playoffs.

No inferiority complex. Just a little sick of fans in non-traditional hockey markets thinking that because they've held the Cup for what appears to be the third season in a row that "OMG Cananada is the SUX at hoky!!!11!!111eleven"

Also, I'll be honest, you personally are one of the worst offenders. In the 03-04 season the Sharks were eliminated by the Flames. In 05-06 the Sharks were eliminated by the Oilers, at which point you openly proclaimed you hated Canadian teams then offered a very half-a$$ed apology. Then now that the Ducks are on the verge of capturing the Cup you play the "it's staying in the US!" card. So all of these things compounded on each other don't leave me with the best impression of you when it comes to this situation.

To be fair even though you're one of the worst, you're not the only one. There's a fairly numerous non-traditional market fan base here who claim Canadian fans are selfish, snobbish, etc... then gloat like there's no tomorrow when the a team in a non-traditional market wins the cup. It's hypocrisy in its most blatant form.

To your point though, yes it does look like the Cup will stay in the States. So in the event that does happen I would like to congratulate the Ducks and their fans. The Ducks have played hard all season, and their dominance has carried through the playoffs. They were underestimated going into the Finals (I admit I was guilty of this), and they proved they're a genuine powerhouse, one worthy of the Cup assuming they don't suffer a major break-down. True are there's a good number of players on the Ducks I think are thugs, goons, etc... but the team also has its fair share of deserving talent.

All that said though, even though the Cup may stay south of the border for an other year it doesn't change the fact that we as Canadians are still the best in the world when it comes to the sport, and no amount of snappy inferiority complex comebacks is going to change that.

If only this had come 3 years earlier...Then the antics profiled in the movies would've finally come full circle...Rec League Title, World Junior Champions, Big Guys on Campus, and now Stanley Cup Champion Mighty Ducks.

But now they're the Ducks, and since I was pulling for the Sens, this is greeted with a mighty "meh."

I might as well just finish the sig now and get it over with:

You do realize that they are not "NHL Champions," but rather "Stanley Cup Champions," don't you?

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008
