Fred T. Jane
Pot meet Mr. Kettle. So, how exactly am I wrong? My analysis is not incorrect just because I am a Senators partisan. Care to show me otherwise? It's painfully obvious that because they're playing the Penguins, the Senators (like any other team in the NHL, for the record) will get the short end of the stick in terms of coverage and analysis on US national broadcasts because the NHL seems to think Average Joe will suddenly drop what he's doing and feed his Inner Man Crush simply because Crosby is playing that day (See the flood of prose celebrating Crosby's garbage time goal in Game 1 and the Penguins' win in Game 2). As for Brian Engblom, other than the fact he's a toad, his rant about the hit on Scuderi may be justified (Schubert isn't exactly a Courtnall, despite what Engblom insinuated about the speed in which Schubert was skating before the hit), but his silence over Malkin's attempted mugging was deafening (For the uninitiated, Phillips was searching for a rebound next to the net when the whistle blew, and when he turned around to skate for the face off, Evgeni Malkin grabbed Phillips, and began throwing punches, dropping his gloves in the process. The officials then restrained Malkin and sent him off for roughing.), even though the broadcasters were surprised that Malkin only got 2 minutes. If you're going to get all in a huff about one, it's only fair to get in a huff over the other. But I guess his hair gets in the way of his critical thinking skills. This isn't some sort of anti-Canadian team paranoia on my part as there wasn't any of this last season (Except for the suits' jaws hitting the floor when Detroit lost to Edmonton in the first round after talking up the Red Wings. Whoops!), or in the Vancouver-Dallas and Detroit-Calgary series. I guess the only consolation to this is that I actually get to watch the Senators on live TV, and the Crosby Man Love will subside if/when the Senators advance. [Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008 Attention: In order to obtain maximum enjoyment from your stay at the CCSLC, the reader is advised that the above post may contain large amounts of sarcasm, dry humour, or statements which should not be taken in any true sort of seriousness. Rampart
I coudln't believe that I heard some boos during the Canadian Anthem, talk about a lack of respect. In Ottawa we always applaud after the U.S. Anthem, it felt good to come away with the win. I didn't hear any boos, but acording to several media sources, they were there. I agree, it's pretty classless. Those same media sources point out that the Senators fans booed during the US Anthem in game 2.
rams80
So, how is NBC/Versus going to spin this game? They were speechess after Game 1, and fell all over themselves ceding the series to the Penguins after Game 2. What can we expect after Game 3? Easy. Brief, faint praise for the Senators' win, followed a long diatribe by Brian Engblom (That haircut has to be in violation of some international agreement) about the hit on Rob Scuderi. Of course, he couldn't get back on his high horse about Evgeni Malkin's attempted mugging of Chris Phillips later on in the game. Is impartiality too much to ask for?HOW DARE YOU!!! Rooting against Crosby and the Penguins is UnAmerican!Edit-On a slightly more serious note, my jaw is currently hitting the floor over Detroit-Calgary; I kinda expected Detroit to pull another first round loss. Kiprusoff must be ready to kill his defense and offense after today, though. BCBoy
The Canucks really poured it on after Dallas scored. Naslund-Sedin-Sedin really picked it up, and young Hansen really showed a lot of poise today, and mustered up a bunch of chances, and was the main reason why Bulis scored the game tying goal.Luongo was great as usual, and we sure needed him early in the game tonight.2-1, and I'm feeling quite comfortable again. Snazel
Did I hear the Dallas Stars tried to fly overnight to get to their homes earlier? What a dumb move, they looked positively drained by the third period and Vancouver skated all over them.Calgary is totally outclassed and if they continue to play grinder hockey, with a team that's faster, smarter and more skilled they will get swept. The Thrashers jerseys are an eye-sore and for this reason alone I find myself rooting for the Rangers for the first time in my life.I agree with the previous poster, that NBC's slurping of Crosby and the Penguins is out of hand. It looks like Detroit is waiting in the wings for both networks to be the "pimp team" of choice, should Pittsbugh collapse. I agree that American broadcasts of the NHL really try to pick "America's team" each year. Then again, Canada has been miserably biased for decades. Anyone who doesn't think HNiC isn't largely a big informercial for the Toronto Maple Leafs is sadly mistaken. When the Leafs fail, they just bandwagon on whatever Canadian team is hot. In fact, I'd go so far to say that HNiC is the most openly biased sports broadcast in all of North America.Yes, even more than FOX when the Cowboys or Giants are playing, or the Yankees for that matter, which is really saying something. At the end of the Vancouver game, last night, we had that idiot color commentator from CBC tell us the "Canucks look like the best team in the playoffs right now". Sad thing is, he believes it too. It's this kind of hyperbole that HNiC has spoonfed the Canadian public for decades.HNiC is viciously anti-American, always has been, and they are never called on it. Well, I am calling them on it.

jkrdevil
The Devils are so flat in these games and Brodeur has been shaky thats not good. Game 4 is a must win or this Lou Lamoriello firing of Claude Jullien will backfire. They were playing the same way under Julien the coaching change has nothing to do with it. This team is on cruise control and has their heads up their ass. The only guy playing hard out there is Parise. This team is also incredibly soft on defense. They are getting pushed around by the Tampa forecheck and are just letting guys stand in front of the net. On that second goal tonight they let Richards stand in the slot. The third goal they let Tampa make 2 cross ice passes (while 5 on 5) and then let Tampa get a shot in close. That's unacceptable. There is no making Lecavier and St. Louis pay out there. I hate to say it but it is the same thing that happened in 2004 against Philly, last year against Carolina, and now this year against Tampa. All of which has been without Stevens and Dano. Their only playoff series victory since 2003 was against an even softer Rangers team last year. The way they have played this series they don't deserve to win. NJTank
No they don't its incredible how many close shots the Lightning are getting, and I think the D was this soft all year, it was just Brodeur stood on his head that he won 48 games. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
TurnTwo
As long as we're on the subject of class, some of the Islanders fans were absolutely disgusting tonight. Before the rink was full of beer bottles, and before the off color comments to the singer of the national anthem, there were a group of about 20 or so jeering during a moment of silence for the VT students. I can't think of anything more classless than that.I know this isn't a reflection of all Islanders fans; hell, it isn't even a reflection of .1% of them. But it's idiots like this that give entire cities bad reputations. "I must be butter, because I'm on a roll."Turn Two Design // Facebook

Snazel
Not that I excuse what happened in Nassau, but that really was a terrible penalty they were given at the end of that game and it ruined any chance of a comeback. Still throwing stuff on the ice is lame. The highlights I saw of the Devils game showed an awful lot of nasty stickwork from Tampa. I've always said Tampa was a very dirty team and they got away with murder in their series against Calgary (not too mention winning on a bogus goal).I love Lecavelier, because I love French-Canadian style hockey and he exemplifies it. Still, the Lightning look like their old selves with sticks up to the face, and clutching and grabbing everything in sight.Despite the fact they have St. Louis and Lecavelier, two great players, it's really hard to like the Lightning, given the way they play.
