Its different personally I like the AL Wordmark better but they seem to work.

I cant wait to see what they cook up in 2008 for Yankee Stadium.

If they do pinstripes, I might gag. Not because pinstripes wouldn't look bad (although they would when you add teams that don't wear pinstriped pants), but because it's the effin' Yankees.

Looking closely at that picture of the jersey being held up behind a podium, you can see what a design tragedy this thing is. Look at the beautiful type on the ASG logo on the podium on the far bottom-right of the photo. That's much closer to the kind of lettering that could have made this jersey work. To pull off this script with the Golden Gate tower, the letters need to look like something out of the arts & crafts style, or post-deco modernism, or some blend of the two. They nailed that same 20th century California look with the type on the logo (which also uses exactly the kind of foreshortened perspective that the jersey lettering needs); so the tragedy is that the elements the designers needed to make this jersey work were on hand as an off-the-shelf solution and they missed it.

Also, true confession time: After the Milwaukee ASG league jerseys, my second-favorite ASG league jerseys are the ones from Chicago Boston in 1999, the ones with the vertical lettering oriented like the type on the spine of a book. Vests, too, if I recall correctly. I ought to hate everything about those jerseys, but darn it I just think they worked.

You certainly seem to know a lot about design and typography, but I really think you're nitpicking this thing to death. It's a baseball jersey that's gonna be worn once and scrapped forever. It must be hard for you to like anything.

I do not like the front of the jerseys. It is a lame attempt to incorperate the Golden Gate Bridge with the NationaL lettering. The numbers and colors are ok. Overall, this looks pretty much like a 3rd rate design. It just seems to me that between MLB and the SF Giants they could have scraped up enough money to have a professional design something that looked presentable.

Im really curious to know what you would suggest as an improvement.

That's easy! How about working with the classic Giants Jersey? The Giants have a great jersey with a great heritage and they tossed it out the window for this schlocky overstated attempt to be loud and sell to kids.

I hate it. It's corny. The side panels are awful. The reason why the Giants do a better job with there colors than the Orioles, is that the Black on the jersey is classic and the orange is a nice subtle addition, not this loud blaring element that gets in the way. San Fran is probably the best design city in this country and I hoped for better from these jerseys. Also from a branding perspective, they don't really work with the logo either, so it is a bad package.

Of course he is nitpicking... that is the point of this board!! By your logic, why look at anything?

I think the wording/bridge was a horrible incorperation. Jersey colors and a patch on the sleeve is all that is needed to let people know where the game is. Simple wording across the chest is enough. The first thing I would do is take the brige off the front of the jersey. IMO, this jersey looks like something you see on a cheesy minor league promo jersey night. The biggest thing is the I part of the bridge. I think it just looks BAD.

Well, personally I think this jersey should be a model for what the Giants should use. I think the current Giants BP jersey isnt very good in that its lacking the giants Gold and/or Cream color. even San Deago fixed their BP problem by adding the sandish gold color as an accent. that and I think the bridge should be worked into the BP wordmark. It would be unique, add the unique colors, fix the black on black problems, and would be one damn good looking jersey.

Oh, and BTW, just to let you know, this is by far the most popular Giants logo that I know of.

If they used the script from the Yankees' main logo, that might be nice... also, they could go with the classic red-and-blue, which is what I would probably put my money on, since NYY is about tradition and all that. I just don't want my favorite players incorporated that directly into the Yankee pinstripes.

Well, when I was a kid once I had this bowl of cereal. Everyone thought I would hate it, but I actually liked it.

Anyway, it's not nitpicking. It's criticism. It's not like I'm saying "d00d, this SUX!" I've been very specific in my thoughts of the choice of lettering on these jerseys, but I've also repeated several times over that I love the idea and I think the jerseys are decent overall. I like plenty of stuff; I just prefer to be aware of why I like things, and why I like some things better than others.

Finally, be careful not to confuse "has strong opinions about" with "knows a lot about." ^_^

Thats funny, my cereal had the same damn letter over and over again....'O'.

Hey man, you can build a strong design career simply around having a great sense of typography. Thats probably the toughest part about design in my opinion. I envy your ability.

BTW, I think there are alot of people on this board who "have strong opinions about" (I may even be one of them ^_^ )

I don't think you're in any danger there.

First of all, the All-Star jerseys are traditionally solid team colors. Not pinstriped.

Second of all, I wonder how many Mariners will be on the All-Star team. :P I personally would like to see Ichiro stay in Seattle after this year, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Touche. Well, we've gotta have ONE, right? Who knows, the M's might surprise the world and get a couple more in there....

I never said it was a bad logo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Jeez, the yelling........

Go to a Giants game and the number of people wearing the G Bridge hat will suprise you, even though it is a kick ass logo. And I do agree with you on SF being a great branding city, I just feel that while this is different, its still good. One thing I like about the ASG bps is how each team gets to add their own design element to the jersey and let everyone know its not only the ASG, but its also being played in San Francisco. I think these jerseys do a better job of depecting that than any other ASG jersey. I dunno, maybe being from the Bay Area has something to do with it, but I also love the inclusion of the bridge. And just the thought of Pujols wearing black and orange AND the bridge is enough to make me pop a tent harder than Puckguy when Drew Remenda walks in the room.

ima keep it short and simple, unlike everybody else.

i think the jersey look childish(fonts and the bridge). they could've done a better job. instead of a orange jersey they should use cream.

if they keepthis up, it looks like the 2008 yankee ASG jerseys going to look stupid too.just my two cents.
