Neil Stratton, of Inside the League, reports that the Houston Texans, as rumored previously, will swap first-round draft picks with the Denver Broncos in this year's NFL Draft Friday, April 27, in exchange for the Broncos' second-round pick, No. 56 overall. With the Texans' first- and second-round picks, the team is considering four players: Utah FS Eric Weddle, Ohio State WR Anthony Gonzalez, USC WR Dwayne Jarrett and Florida S Reggie Nelson.

The more and more I think about it, I really, really want the Lions to draft Calvin Johnson.

On a side note, I'd love to see Drew Stanton in honolulu blue. Personally, I'd rather have him than Brady Quinn. I'm not taking anything away from Quinn - he's a great player, no doubt, but I liked what I saw from Stanton more.

I'm trying to keep my mouth shut because I don't want to jinx anything.

I also would love to see Stanton in the honolulu blue and silver (w/ black accents), and this is coming from a die-hard Michigan fan. By himself, he made the Michigan/Michigan State game interesting two out of the past three years. With some decent protection and a few respectable weapons, he could be a great quarterback.

Here is how I have the Lions draft shaking out...

Whoever falls into the second round. In the Tampa 2 defense, we need our John Lynch. Playmaking safeties can make a huge impact on your defense (see Colts/Bob Sanders last year). Personally, I prefer Nelson, but Merriweather is very close behind.

(3) QB Drew Stanton

Great value at this pick. With John Beck and Trent Edwards on the rise, it is possible that he slips into the thirs round. If Stanton is off the board, look for either Georgia DE Quentin Moses (Millen has a thing for underperforming D-linemen) or the very underrated ILB Zac DeOssie from Brown University.

Im starting to get that sinking feeling that not only will Tampa not get Calvin Johnson, but that this will turn out to be one of the most disasterous drafts in recent memory.

Unfortunately for you, I see you guys in a tough spot. Unless you guys trade up, it appears that CJ will be off the board. I can't see you guys taking Brady Quinn with Simms, Garcia, and Plummer. I can't slide Peterson in either with so much money already tied up in Cadillac. So that leaves Thomas, Adams, or a longshot of Landry or Okoye. With the aging Simeon Rice, the departure of the Booger and Dewayne White, I had to put Adams at #4, which is a slight reach in my mind.

For your next 2 picks, I see them this way....

(2) WR Sydney Rice

A speedster who can stretch the field. A nice compliment to the aging Galloway, and Clayton can be used as a slot/possession guy which seems to be better suited for him.

(3) CB Fred Bennett

Rice's teammate at SC, a workout warrior, with all the intangibles you look for in a CB...

I agree. I don't want the Broncos trading up to 10. I want my Niners to grab Willis at 11 and maybe a receiver in the second round. Dwayne Jarrett, Sidney Rice or Steve Smith. They also could trade up into the bottom of the second round and grab Justin Harrell from Tennessee but it seems every time the 49ers draft a player from Tennessee they either are a bust or get hurt.

No the Bills are supposed to get Willis not the Niners

If Denver or San Fran takes Willis, the Bills better not take Lynch. He does not impress me at all. They should take Plousnozsky

Ted Ginn Jr. at 9? That's a reach. Adrian Peterson dropping to the Bills would be a dream come true. I like it a lot, I really hope the Colts do pick up a receiver, they really don't have much after Harrison/Wayne with Stokely gone, and Moorehead aint a #3 receiver.

As a Steelers fan, I'm hoping Revis is available for the taking, but I won't be mad at all with Beason, that'll definitely help out where we're starting to get thin again.

The Broncos are not targeting a LB with that #10 pick. The word around here is that they are trying to trade up to either the #2 slot and take Calvin Johnson or trade up to the #5 slot and take Amobi Okoye.

Trade would send 49er pick to Seahawks for star WR

The San Francisco 49ers, one of the more aggressive teams this offseason in terms of acquisitions, enter this weekend's draft with a league-high eight picks in the first four rounds: one first-round selection, a second, two thirds and four fourths.

On the eve of the draft, the Niners already were poised to maximize the value of one of those fourth-round picks.

According to a league sources, San Francisco and division rival Seattle are working toward a trade that would send Seahawks wide receiver Darrell Jackson to the Niners in exchange for one of their fourth-rounders, believed to be the Niners' third selection in the round, No. 124 overall. The New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans, whose new general manager Mike Reinfeldt came over from Seattle, are also believed to be talking with Seattle about Jackson.

The deal is contingent upon Jackson passing his physical, scheduled for Saturday at the Niners' Santa Clara, Calif., practice facility. Jackson missed 10 regular-season games in 2005 after undergoing surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee, underwent a second operation on the knee following Seattle's loss in Super Bowl XL, and missed the final three regular-season games of last season because of turf toe.

Jackson, 28, caught 63 passes in 2006 for 956 yards and 10 touchdowns -- all team-leading totals. At the time of his toe injury, Jackson was leading the league in touchdown catches. He's exceeded 1,000 receiving yards three times in seven seasons.

However, Jackson and Seahawks management reportedly have been at odds following negotiation of the six-year, $25 million contract extension Jackson signed in March 2004, his decision to skip voluntary workouts in 2005, and the manner in which the team handled his knee injury last season.

The presence of Deion Branch, Nate Burleson, and D.J. Hackett in the Seahawks receiving corps made Jackson expendable; Jackson has been on the trading block all offseason but Seattle apparently could not fetch more than a second-day pick -- from its up-and-coming division rival, no less. Branch, whom the Seahawks acquired from the Patriots last season, presumably would become Matt Hasselbeck's No. 1 target.

Should the trade go through, as expected, Jackson's addition represents yet another coup for the Niners, who via free agency added, among others, cornerback Nate Clements, safety Michael Lewis, and Ashley Lelie. Though the Niners lost offensive coordinator Norv Turner to San Diego, they appear to have, in quarterback Alex Smith, running back Frank Gore, tight end Vernon Davis, wide receiver Arnaz Battle, Lelie, and now possibly Jackson, the makings of an explosive offense.

And there's still the draft. With the 11th overall pick, the Niners could pick up a blue-chip prospect such as Penn State offensive tackle Levi Brown or LSU wide receiver Dwayne Bowe to further bolster the offense, or tap Mississippi linebacker Patrick Willis to help head coach Mike Nolan's defense.

In 96 games, including 89 starts, Jackson, a third-round selection in 2000 out of Florida, has 441 receptions for 6,445 yards (14.6-yard average) and 47 touchdowns.

One might say Jackson's new team is scoring big this offseason.

Its to bad that Jackson is going he and Hasselback had good chemistry but he was injury prone and had a big contrat. Im starting to get that sinking feeling that not only will Tampa not get Calvin Johnson, but that this will turn out to be one of the most disasterous drafts in recent memory.

Unfortunately for you, I see you guys in a tough spot. Unless you guys trade up, it appears that CJ will be off the board. I can't see you guys taking Brady Quinn with Simms, Garcia, and Plummer. I can't slide Peterson in either with so much money already tied up in Cadillac. So that leaves Thomas, Adams, or a longshot of Landry or Okoye. With the aging Simeon Rice, the departure of the Booger and Dewayne White, I had to put Adams at #4, which is a slight reach in my mind.

I see this happening. Oakland shocks everyone by grabbing CJ, Det grabs Joe Thomas, Jamarcus goes to Cle, and Tampa sits stuck at four. Thatd be the worst case scenario. Id be pretty happy with Adams, but truth is id still be dissapointed. Truth is I think if CJ goes anywhere but Tampa, all teams are gonna end up calling this draft a bust. CJ is a good player, but worthless if nobody can get the ball to him. Oakland needs a quarterback way more than a wide reciever, Detroit needs just about everything over another wideout, and cleveland is in a similar boat. I dunno, maybe this is just a desperate cry for someone to be logical from a fan who thinks CJ is the missing piece to the championship puzzle. Tampa has never had a truely breakout wide reciever, and finally has a quarterback who can get the ball to a guy like CJ, and the prospect of that is something I really want, but probably wont get.

Oakland's taking JaMarcus Russell. I just can't see Al Davis, senile as he is, passing up what could be a true blue-chip QB prospect after last year's debacle. I now KNOW--and it makes me absolutely SICK--Matt Millen is taking Calvin Johnson, and then dangling him over TB's head like a carrot, just waiting to see if Tampa will bite. Okay, so if Brian Kelly is disgruntled, okay, trade the cat. But I just can't see Tampa coming out of BOTH of their second round picks in addition to Kelly. Maybe one of the second-rounders, Kelly, and the first-rounder...but even that's pretty much of a reach. But hell...if it's Calvin Johnson Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden want (by the way, I'm going on record as saying I was never too fond of Gruden to begin with, and now that's only growing), then damn it...GET HIM!

Just don't mortgage half the draft on him.

I don't get it. The Seahags are trading their best reciever to a team that looks to be on the rise in their own division. A team that, IIRC, swept them this year. Something's not right. Either his knees are shot or he has some incurable disease.
