speedy
Not suprised at all by this, not upset either. Actually, I don't even care. The Yankees still have a helluva lot more work to do to their pitching staff to become legitimate contenders again.

jkrdevil
This is going to be Randy Johnson part two. He won't survive at his age in the AL east. The pitching staff needs to get younger not older.

infrared41
The Barry Bonds of pitchers returns. Why is it most everyone thinks that Bonds is on steroids but Clemens remarkable improvement with age is simply due to great conditioning? Granted, some questions have been raised about Clemens but it's nothing like the scrutiny Bonds (and rightfully so) has been subjected to. Just wondering. Regardless, it's not enough to save the Yankees at this point.

He could have ridden of into the sunset any of the last five + years and "gotten away with it" and gone to the HOF. I really doubt he would want to risk it now.I think the Yankees will win the east. I also thought that yesterday when I assumed Clemons was going to pitch in Houston. The Yankees win the east every year. I never for a second thought they would not last year, and am a long way from thinking they won't this year.

However, I think it's just as likely that Roger is juiced at this point. Pitchers in general don't get as much steroid scrutiny as the hitters. Joshawaggie
I don't see this making a big difference in the end, in fact I dont think he'll even make it the whole season, I'm predicitng injury. Can't say this suprises in any way.

marlinfan
Oh boy, this should be fun. Clemens will be extremely average against the AL East. Every team in that division has an above average offense. I can't seem him averaging 6 innings a start (which is what he did in the NL last year) in the AL.What an attention whore. Holy crap I'm sick of him pulling this crap. Milo Meningocele
It's very selfish, if you ask me. The rest of the team goes through the long grind of spring training, the entire regular season (and possibly) the playoffs; and this guy just swoops in each May if he feels like it, and grabs an absurd amount of money for a partial year's work. I know the rest of the team probably doesn't care if it helps them win it all. But if I were a Yankee (I'm not--I am a Tiger), I'd be pissed at the special treatment. See Red
I wasn't going to count the Yankees out if they hadn't have gotten him -- but this doesn't really change my opinion of them very much at all. Keep getting older, Yankees. They'll be right there at the end. The Red Sox still look like the better team, especially when they get Tavarez out of the rotation and they fix Dice-K's mechanics from the stretch.Great pickup from them. But he's one year older and the AL East ain't exactly the NL Central that he faced last year. I still contest that the only reason the Red Sox would've signed him would be to keep him off of the Yankees -- the Yankees desperately need him. You tell me who's in better shape...edit: I should add that he only average 6 innings per start last year. That's probably closer to five in the AL East.I'll also add with the luxury tax and prorate it'll come out to about $26.2 million for about 20 starts, if he makes them all.
