New Orleans Saints

So I've been trawling these pages for ages now and feel ready to show some of my designs so first up is my take on what the Saints may produce next season or at least what I feel they should!

I've drawn upon the idea of the 60's uniform also involving a single tone gold and a yellower one for that.

I haven't just stuck to keeping it old school with Home and Road uniforms so I've played about with the alternates as well.

Look forward to pointers from you guys and I know there are some talented designers in this forum so any critisism is likely to be good critisism!! Thanks.

I like it overall.

A couple of criticisms:

You have a lot of traditional stripes going on, which I like, on the jersey and socks, but none on the pants, which seems inconsistent and non-traditional.

The gold state logo on the gold pants.

Also, this is not so much directed at you, because many if not most football concepts I've seen lately fall into this cateogy, but why so many uniform combinations? Do you really like the gold-gold version? Just my opinion, but I'd rather teams to wear only one home and one away uniform, with one alt jersey. Granted, if this is just your initial offering to test the waters, that's fine, but ultimately I'd prefer to see which sets you think work the best.

Funny you should say that cos I actually hate that gold on gold uni'! But I thought with the current NFL trend of every possible alternative a la Tennessee and the sky blue on sky blue! But you're right that gold on gold is scabby!

very clean and classy jersey. i think a lot of people prefer the gold numbers with black outline but me personally like the black numbers with gold outline but i'm just 1 person. besides that it good. i like too see all the diff. combination just because they are cool looking at. The gold on gold is horrible but the rest are fine

Yeah the gold on gold is horrible, the black with gold pants is best IMO. Overall its very nice, I don't really like the stripes but not your fault just not my thing. I'm more of a modern piping guy. I think you have different stripes on the socks than on the sleeves so you might want to change that too.

Really nice, but ditch the all mustard set (although the jersey is great!) and make the state of Louisiana black on the gold pants. Also try adding some whites pants. Overall, very solid concept & great for a first try!

They're nice overall. Suggestions:

1. Ditch the "state" logo unless it's a jersey patch like they wore last year.

2. Add stripes to the pants.

3. Remove the bottom 2 stripes from the socks so the stripe is just white-gold-white. As is it's too much.

4. Use gold numbers w/white outline on the black jersey.

5. Find an empty 55-gallon drum and BURN THAT GOLD/GOLD SET!! :P

My first 2 gripes are apparently everyone else's - the Louisiana patch (especially when gold, on gold pants) and the gold/gold monochrome set.

Now, to take it further:

1. Dump the black/black monochrome as well. I don't mind the black pants with the white jerseys. But assuming that the Saints will always have black jerseys as primaries (the next metallic-colored jersey to look good on a team will be the first, NO EXCEPTIONS), the gold pants go well with the black jerseys. The NFL will sell anything for money, but they don't sell uniform pants (with good reason, judging by the size of far too many fans...), so there's no real reason to make 2 sets of pants. Moreover, metallic pants (gold, silver, pewter) go well with both white and team-colored jerseys, so the gold pants by themselves work nicely for the black and the white jersey.

I would also like to echo the call for gold numbers on the black jersey. Black/old gold is a killer combo, and the more of those two colors, the better. Leave white as a trim and accent color.

Finally, I wold also like to echo the call to cut back on the number of uniforms. There are 16 games in an NFL season; there's no defensible reason for having 6 possible combos for 16 games. Light and dark jerseys are sufficient, as are one pair of pants if the color is right, 2 at the most. And maybe an alternate jersey. But not a closet's worth of mix & match fashion.

Beyond that, I like the darker gold and the stripes. This will look really nice when it's done.

Bam! I don't think you need the black pants at all. And I would only use the white pants with the gold jersey. I have always liked the state logo and would like to see is some place on the uniform. But they kick ass!

Nice job!

I agree about the black pants being optional at best, and I'd still lose the "state" logo but that's just me.

Does the helmet have stripes? I can't tell.

You guys ever see the early Saints on NFL Network? Last night on their "Ten Biggest Steals in the Draft" show they were profiling safety Larry Wilson of the then-St. Louis Cardinals and showed the Saints & Cards playing in Tulane Stadium circa 1968 (Saints had "reversed" helmet stripes that they only wore for part of the '68 season). Those '67-'68 Saints unis in the "copper" gold were awesome.
