I wonder if that's the same junk San Antonio was using last weekend when they played Detroit in a exhibition game at the Qwest Center.

I don't see why anyone in Omaha, let alone this nation, would even want to watch a WNBA game at the arena, let alone TV.

Because it's important to help little girls realize that boys aren't the only ones who can grow up to become pro athletes.

"God" forbid, women should have the same avenues as men to realize their goals.

I don't get the mentality of "you should support the WNBA because it's important for girls to see female pro athletes." No. Pro sports is not a charity. If it were so important for women to have these role models of athleticism, the NBA should just write the whole thing off as a non-profit endeavor and have the teams barnstorm at free events in junior high and high school gyms across the country. I should support the WNBA, as I should any other sports league, because of the product they put out. And the WNBA's product is piss-poor. 60-55 games at an alleged professional level do nothing for me.

If I were to purchase a ticket to see the Chicago Sky, I'm not empowering women everywhere. I'm helping the NBA hemorrhage less money than they would otherwise in this clunker of a league.

Should there be professional women's sports leagues in this country? Yes, I think so. I also think there should be professional outdoor spring football. But that doesn't mean I have to support any of those business endeavors out of the goodness of my heart just because they've bothered to show up.

Is it just me, or was the level of play in the ABL seemingly more advanced than what goes on in the WNBA?

Back on topic, the patterned inserts on the Monarchs' jersey look like a tablecloth someone's grandma would own.

I don't see anything wrong with these unis. I don't understand the hostility toward women's sports by some

sports fans. The WNBA isn't supposed to be the NBA. It's something else. I've sat courtside for both WNBA

and NCAA women's games. These are phenomenal athletes. They're at the top of their games, not the

NBA games. Candace Parker of Tennessee is a great basketball player. To compare her to Koby Bryant

or some other NBA player is ridiculous. Women's basketball games are just as exciting to watch as any

men's game. It'a tired argument to say it's boring or they're not as good. Who cares? Just enjoy it for what

it is. If you sit there and say this is no NBA game, then you shouldn't be watching.

Again with the "how dare you not enjoy watching this league" mentality. I don't get it.

I don't like watching golf either, be it men's or women's. Does that also make me a bad person?

For the record, I'm not saying anyone HAS to watch it. I'm just saying that whether you (or I or anyone else) like the league or not, girls need to learn that they can grow up to be something besides Paris Hilton or an unwed mother.

But that's just one parent's opinion. Yes, however, the league itself does suck.

I'm enough of a sports fan that when the WNBA was quite new, I watched more than a few games. And it just wasn't that entertaining. Candace Parker is a great basketball player if you compare her to other women, but that's like saying the Jamaican Bobsled Team members were the best bobsledders in Jamaica. It's no slight against women, but women's basketball, even at the professional level, is a totally different game.

Think of the most exciting plays in a NBA or men's college game. They probably include a big blocked shot, a dunk, or an acrobatic move. None of those exist in reasonably similar form in the women's game. I'm not saying everyone has to think like this, but I'm just not that enthralled by watching women hit set shots with a small ball. It's not that they aren't skilled, they just aren't fun to watch.

Would lowering the basket a few inches/feet perhaps make the game more enjoyable? That could allow for more dunks, blocks, drives to the basket, etc.

I like the Mystics' new road jersey, since the word "WASHINGTON" is on it. It's the first time the word "Washington" has ever appeared on a pro basketball jersey. Just look at the old Capital Bullets, or Washington Bullets, or even the old Washington Caps of the ABA. The word "Washington" is relegated to the warmups.

Hell, I don't think Red Klotz even wore the word on his jersey; they were just the "GENERALS."

Amen to that. What's being presented as acceptable/ideal behavior to girls these days is scary - the Paris Hilton episode of "South Park" nailed it so well. Just this afternoon, one of my co-workers said on his train ride home last night that two high-school age girls were talking loudly about how they were "absolutely addicted to c*ck." Paris, Britney, Lindsey, Lindsay from Accounts Payable, the formerly attractive, now skeletal Keira Knightley, and every single guest on Maury - they're all telling girls that the way to go is to coke up, throw up, and whore out.

Yes, however, the league itself does suck.

And another amen, my brother. Damn, this is the closest thing I've gotten to a Sunday mass in a long stretch.
