Viper
homerisim aside... Pittsburgh.Wasn't the roof on Mellon Arena originally designed to be retractable? Too bad it doesn't work; they could have had an outdoor game there already.
Sproullie03
Is there anywhere in Montreal to play outside . . . the Pens playing in Montreal outside would be a huge draw

Too bad it doesn't work; they could have had an outdoor game there already.yeah, but it costs too much just to open it now, the motors are just hoplessly in disrepair and theyve since renovated the inside of the place so that many things hanging from the roof, seats, press boxes and whatnot will obscure its path. Not to mention its extremely easy to jump on the roof's track. There is one place where all you have to do is climb over a rail and jump alittle more than one foot. Not to mention the roofs track is serverely littered and probably plays host Pittsburgh's biggest dust/spiderweb collection. However I do hope that they somehow are able to get the roof open... perhaps for the last game ever play in it... but never and NHL outdoors game where they have the option of a stadium with 4.5x the amount of seats or one with twice the amount and a beautiful skyline view. Both stadiums have better parking to {unless its a packed-to-the-rafters steelers game}

KevinMcD
Bringing this thread back up to the top..............http://www.wgr550.com/sabres/fullstory.php?id=2504Looks like it will be DET/BUF vs. PIT on New Years Day at the Ralph, or Spartan Stadium??????????, Comerica Park?????????, the Big House???????????I would love this minus the fact that New Years Day is NCAA Football's day. And the NHL would get slaughetered in the TV ratings.

Frenchie
Isnt Toronto suppose to play Montreal at the new BMO Field in the next few years?I started that rumour.... ... well was more like wishful thinking. As for Montreal, McGill Stadium (home of the Alouettes) would be perfect.Anyone who thinks the NHL should try to do something else than promote an outdoors game should look how well this thread is doing...I think the Edmonton game was one of the best PR event I have ever witnessed...Theodore with a tuque is a classic!!! @Frenchie_TO Owner of the Rochester Americans of the MLH Owner of the Toronto Frenchies of the GCFHL6

MisterE
NBC has guaranteed that they would broadcast it.If they play this game on New Year's Day, then the NHL has just dug themselves a little bit further into the grave that is the American conscious. Get Ron Santo in the Hall of Fame.

They don't have any Bowl games so they need a big event to televise that day. Thus why it's being called the Ice Bowl.
Sabrejeff
I doubt it will be in Canada because Toronto and Montreal both have domes as their big stadiums.Toronto's. Dome. Has. A. Retractable. Roof.It. Can. Be. Used. As. An. Outdoor. Stadium."right 'round, 'round 'round"Yes, but the whole point of the roof is to keep the elements. Rain, snow, extreme cold. I'd hate to see the gears and whatnot get frozen and messed up or something.
