RollWolfpack
It looks as if there may be a lawsuit brewing in Raleigh against the University of Nevada, Reno. Nevada, whose athletic teams are known as the Wolf Pack, is apparently selling merchandise with a modified North Carolina State Wolfpack wolf head logo. This wolf head is from the old strutting wolf logo that was updated in 2006 yet is still trademarked as an official logo. For comparison: NC State wolf head:Nevada Wolf Pack logo infringement?:Also, here is a link to the story in the NCSU student newspaper: Technician
gordie_delini
oh yeah, that's a major infringement there - it's the same wolf head with a different hat and colors- not hard to spot the difference.

FiddySicks
That logo is WAY old #1 and is barely used anymore. Right now Nevada uses the flying wolf head as their logo. And since that logo was last used, all of these have been in the loop. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Joshawaggie
so the question remains, which came first, Nevada or NCST. @josh_j12 CFA- Fargo Bobcats
RollWolfpack
The general consensus in NC is that the Strutting Wolf logo, also known as "Toughie", was designed by NC State students in the early 1970s in response to Bucky Badger. Carolina then followed by introducing the Walking Ram. I may be wrong on the specifics of the history, but I'm pretty sure I am generally correct. Also, I would assume NC State originally had the mark, considering that for years the Wolfpack used the wolf head logo in a variety of different ways, from the Strutting Wolf, to the Wolf licking his teeth, to the front facing Wolf that is in question. Mingjai
so the question remains, which came first, Nevada or NCST.If Nevada really has/had been using the logo in question for as long as has been indicated here, then NC State might be facing a defense of laches if it does bring suit. Laches is legalese for the doctrine that he who sleeps on his rights loses them. If NC State knew about the offensive use and did nothing about it for--say--30 years, the court might throw the action out. AHcreative
And Georgia is rumored to be suing Georgetown:The only thing sorta-kinda similar there is the hat. But I mean, there aren't many ways you can draw a bulldog. The dogs do look different to me.
Joshawaggie
the dogs themselves are different (how many ways can you draw a bulldog), but I'm sure they arent happy the accessories are the same (pinwheel hat and spiked collar). @josh_j12 CFA- Fargo Bobcats

It was around for over thirty years before NC State adapted it by swapping out the head and adding a tail. They certainly have a lot of nerve going after another school for essentially doing to them what they did to Wisconsin....
