Wow, now that's off the deep end.

Yeah, he needs his head checked.

('Course, I wouldn't mind checking the rest of his body. What? You guys get the Babe of the Week thread... ;) )

Now especially considering the dude looks like Dick Butkus from afar, that was just so wrong on so many different levels.

.... does that include the major league level? ...

I saw, I came, I left.

You go girl! :P

Sorry y'all, I don't find it the least bit funny. It's sickening, disrespectful, and disturbing. In no other sport is such disrespect to the game and the officials acceptable and, to most of y'all, encouraged. It's pathetic, really. There's no place for this in PROFESSIONAL sports. That manager seriously has some screws loose. I won't be surprised if dude gets fired...and justifiably so.

Just a question;

When you say "PROFESSIONAL" do you mean the fact that Minor League Baseball is pretty high up in the rankings of the sport. Or were you unaware that this is an AA ballclub.

There's no sarcasm or nastiness in this question.

(I just have to say that, because it's hard to interpret the "feel" of writing over the internet)

You know, I rarely visit ccslsc anymore. I really should fix that.

AA baseball is professional baseball, it's just not the highest level of professional baseball

As long as Bobby Cox, the current (and soon to be all-time) king of getting kicked out is the manager, no matter how outlandish his antics were, firing would make the whole franchise look hypocritical.

But a suspension sounds nice.

And lol @ people being disturbed at this. PC at it's finest.

I'm disturbed about this because I am an umpire. As a baseball fan, I don't like people who think they are above the game, and cause a large scene that not only brings unnecessary attention to themselves, but shows up those the officials and disrespects all the hard working people on and off the field.

The manager got ejected. Take it like a man and leave the field, don't act like a little baby and toss the bases and throw rosin bags at people.

Its not being PC. Its embarrassment at his actions. Click on the video link of Michael Richards from Fridays I posted earlier thats how silly it looked.

Apostrophes are great; I suggest learning how to use them. Michael Richards? tirade occurred at the Laugh Factory, not Friday's. This guy is a moron. His behavior was unacceptable. Once someone is tossed, they should leave the field in a timely manner. If not, then have someone else make it so they leave the field in a timely manner. Baseball, especially minor league baseball is something to take the family out to enjoy. The atmosphere is usually great. To subject little kids and all the people in attendance to an unnecessary tirade, not just getting tossed like how people are all the time, but to a long, aggressive, emotional breakdown is completely unacceptable. A strong discipline should be in order, at least to me.

I'm not talking about Michael Richards at the Laugh Factory

I'm talking about Michael Richards on an old TV Show called Fridays (ABC's Answer to SNL in 1980)

In this clip he is playing Army men and it reminded me of that Manger.

Reading posts are great; I suggest you learn how to do so. You see how Tank said to click on the link he posted earlier? You obviously didn't and decided he was wrong, deserved mocking and correction.

Whoops!

Kudos to my dad for digging up that old clip from a 26 year old Beta tape and throwing it on YouTube.

I'll second that this was a tasteless act. Just thought one way the ump could've defused the tirade (and make people laugh) was to dramatically pull the pin and toss the rosen bag back.

Still getting serious, how should things like this be handled in the future? Do you toss someone out and immediately have security escort them off the field, forcibly if necessary?

I say only escort them off the field if they are holding the game up or are potentially endangering others around them. Otherwise, let them blow some steam off, get what they have to say out there, and let them leave the field.

Bobby Cox's ejections are somewhat constructive, though, because much like Earl Weaver, another fine albeit hotheaded manager, he's protecting his players by doing the arguing for them and keeping them in the game. It doesn't really matter if Bobby Cox gets tossed, but it does if Chipper Jones does. However, this was just stupid and contrived attention-whoring designed to give the fans a show and get on Sportscenter like the last kuh-raaaazy minor league manager, and that's a lot harder to respect. There's no baseball strategy to it. I'm not a believer in histrionic old men "giving the team some fire" by thrashing and ranting. The only real purpose should be to keep your players in the game.

The umpires had the means to end the tirade if they had wanted to - and doing so would have guaranteed that this guy either lost his job, or at minimum never did it again.

How?

Simple. They could have invoked a game forfeiture, awarding the game to their opponents. Perfectly within their power as the game's officials, perfectly acceptable action in the case of intentional interference that inhibits the ability to continue playing the game in every sport.

You guys are overreacting. It's minor league baseball. Chances are the owner told him to get a little creative and it wouldn't surprise me if it was scheduled. It gets them on sportscenter and sells tickets. It probably doesn't work that way anymore, but it wouldn't be the first time a manager's tirade wasn't completely spontaneous.

As a fan, I'm loving this for two reasons. Firstly, the guy is acting like an idiot. Secondly, I like watching guys like this do more and more outrageous things and get severely punished. The only person that should be embarrassed is the coach and the team. Was it "pathetic", no... but he did look like an idiot, so that's on him.

Now, that said, as an umpire, I'd push for some sort of suspension because he's showing the umpires up. In fact, I probably would've gone over to the coaching staff and said, "look, if you don't get this guy out of here, you lose the game." Simple as that. I don't let anyone show me up.
