AL: Lackey, Sabathia, or Beckett? It's obvious where my vote goes(*coughlackeycough*)

Im sorry, but you are straight ridiculous if you dont have Danny Haren starting for the AL. Sabathia, Beckett, and Lackey are all killer pitchers this season, but Haren is posting a 1.58 ERA and making batters look like whiny little schoolgirls. If he doesn't start there is something severely wrong with the way the ASG is set up.......... Oh wait.......

Fine. If I were to choose one, it would be Josh Beckett from seeing him on a daily basis.

Too bad your boy Beckett got smoked by Garret Atkins and the lowly Rockies today.

Oh how dare he have one bad game.

It's not that he just had a bad game... he went into the game without a loss... pitching at HOME... and got smoked by, of all teams, the friggin' Rockies.

When he's competing with Haren for the starting spot on the All Star team, yeah, how dare him really kinda sums it up.

I don't buy into Billy Beane being the great GM he's made out to be -- the A's offense is dreadful and was last year too* -- but he sure is great at drafting pitchers. Haren should be the starter -- even if Beckett hadn't gotten drilled by the Rockies, who have an extremely capable offense, Haren would be the starter.

*Beane was right about Youkilis, though.

On another note, a slow start has ruined his chance at making the team but watch out for Dustin Pedroia, the Red Sox rookie 2B, in the second half.

Kid is raking the ball right now.

Billy Beane is an excellent General Manager, by far the best in baseball. Bite your tounge.

And if the Rays do not get more than their obligatory one all-star this year, I will be pissed.

He doesn't have any rings. He's drafted great starting pitching and rode them to his great reputation. He deserves credit for the pitching staff he's assembled, but the 'moneyball' lineups he's assembled have been abysmal these past two years -- among the league's worst, even.

I think this year they deserve three. That said, I expect them to get one myself.

I don't know. I think they might get two. Jim Leyland seemed very impressed with Jamie Shields when he dominated Detroit earlier this year, so I've gotta figure he's on. The question mark is the second player. You could make a case for about three other Rays, the ones that come to mind are Upton, Reyes, and Pena.

You work with what God has given you (God in this case being Wolff and Fisher). If Beene accually had a payroll worth a damn to work with he would be unstoppable. I think the thing Red Sox fans should be most dissapointed about is that they weren't able too hook Ole Billy a few years ago. So I agree with you, Oakland's offense has been far from stellar the past two seasons, but with the shallow bottom they have when it comes to the owners pockets its amazing they do as well as they do.

The thing us Red Sox fans should be disappointed about is that the man whom Beane inspired decided to cough up big money to Lugo and Drew. ^_^

I'd take Beane as a GM -- certainly over Epstein, whom I'm not crazy about. I'd like to see Beane work with the Red Sox payroll. Not to say I don't like Billy Beane but I think he's gotten to a status that should be reserved for guys with rings. He hadn't even won a playoff series until last year.

Not sure if you thought this (the big three were drafted by beane) but Danny Haren wasn't drafted by Beane. He came to the A's in the Mark Mulder Trade. Mulder to the Cardinals for Haren, Daric Barton (Catcher in the Minors), and Kiko Calero.

Worked out to be a terrible trade for the Cardinals. It wasn't that great at the time (for STL), as Haren was one of hte best Pitching Prospects for the cardinals, Barton was the best hitting prospect (although blocked by a young Yadi Molina) and Kiko was one of their most solid relievers.

Beane destroyed Jocketty in that trade, that's for sure.

That looks about right, though I question the inclusion of two 3rd-basemen on the bench. Granted, I haven't looked at stats, but David Wright's spot should be given to a bench 2nd-baseman (Most likely Dan Uggla). Also, I don't think Soriano's done enough to get on the squad, he had a horrible April and May.

Though, to be honest, Renteria should get some serious consideration for the All-Star Game. He and Smoltz are the Braves' two best chances for All-Stars. Chipper would have been a shoe-in had he not gotten hurt and misses three weeks, and he still might make it onto the squad.

I wouldn't be suprised if, somehow, the Giants get two players on the team.

Thanks for pointing that out. I would add Uggla instead of Wright. I think Wright has better stats than Zimmerman, but I needed a National on the team. Bonds will probably make the team, but I don't think he has done that good. Jason Bay could also be the last outfielder, but Soriano has picked it up a lot.
