Craig Biggio

I was really happy to see Craig Biggio get his 3000th hit tonight. He became the 27th MLB player to reach this milestone. As a lifelong Astros fan, Biggio has always been one of my favorite players (and athletes in general). In a time when baseball is stilled marred with steroid controversy, it's great to see a player achieve a great feat like this without any negative circumstances surrounding it.

Moreover, Biggio is a great guy and a player who doesn't always get a lot of attention (not counting these last couple weeks as he neared his 3000th hit). He just goes out there and gives it his all every game. I've always found him to be a fun ballplayer to watch and a great athlete/role model to look up to. Congrats Craig!!

Is he Hall of Fame material?

There are 4 former players that are NOT in the HOF but are members of the 3000 hit club:

Vida Pinson

Andre Dawson

Al Oliver

I count only three non-HOF 3000 hit club, and two of them are Rickey Henderson and Rafael Palmeiro, both not eligible yet.

Actually, the four are: Pete Rose, Rickey Henderson, Rafael Palmeiro, and, of course, Craig Biggio. Among active players, Barry Bonds is closest, and is now less than 100 hits away. There is still a slim chance he could get there by the end of the season.

Dawson, Pinson and Oliver dont have 3000 hits

Andre Dawson 2774

Vada Pinson 2757

Al Oliver 2743

Opps!

I meant to say that there were 3 players I considered HOF material that were NOT 3000 hit club

members.
