vicfurth
Here's my latest entry into my personal portfolio. It's a rebrand of the Houston Gamblers of the 20+ years defunct USFL.Now for the explanation. I considered the current popularity of World Series of Poker, which centers on a game affectionately known as "Texas Hold 'Em". That was the foundation for my idea. I wanted a gambling-style logo that didn't center on cards or dice. You know, the stereotypical gambling logo. With that in mind, I took the whole poker chip idea and ran with it. I tried to incorporate as much poker as possible:-The fact that it centers around a poker chip-The spade in the middle.-The colors red and blackThe other element I put in was the orange-ish color. I wanted to add a little of the old Gamblers' logo, so I put in their orange. The orange also helped separate the elements of the primary logo a bit. That's all for now. I have a script ready and unis coming if this receives good feedback, so comment away!Note: Special thanks goes to LMUPepbander for vectoring this logo. I owe ya one, buddy. BIGBAD
i like iti thought of a spade myselfi dont rember their logo having any orange it thoughstrictly red and blackthe only thing i dont like is the "H"it look a little too feminine for some reason
Korbyn
I like it also. I think it would look better if you put the H in the spade though
illwauk
I got love for any logo with an Ace of Spades. But I agree that it'd look much better with the H inside the spade. That said, I'm not sure you could improve on their original logo. That was the coolest G to ever appear on a football helmet.... and this is a lifelong Packers fan talkin'.
Epiphanic
I don't care much for the H. It's too round. I think a square edge would work better and mesh, yet provide contrast, with the spade/chip. I also don't like the H being on top of the spade. It confounds the image of the spade. It's almost too distracting. Getting rid of it would help I think, but that may make it too generic. I think you need to find a place for the H that doesn't conflict so much. Here's a potential solution. It'll work better with the chip (possibly not so much with the standalone). Have the H be the center piece and a spade, diamond, club, at N, S, E, W (not necessarily in that order) around the H. "In the arena of logic, I fight unarmed."I tweet & tumble. drevel
I think it looks great just the way it is to be honest with you. I think if you have a spade with a H in the middle it may loose something. Its H for Houston, not S for Spade.
quantum
I think the spade is lost in this design. It should either have more prominence, or it should be dropped. I think the stars on the edge should be replaced with a spade, club, heart and diamond. Then in the middle of the chip, have an H that is more masculine. Or at least an H that has more of a casino feel to it.And I agree that the inclusion of all four colors the Gamblers used is important. Well done. DMadSport
The logo represents "poker" too much for it to even represent "Gamblers." You can use a logo that doesn't use obvious representations of gambling. The original Houston Gamblers went that route back in the 80s, and look how wonderful their logo turned out to be. The Green Bay Gamblers would eventually go that route too, going from a garish original to well-done insignias with a cowboy (a little bit of reference to gambiling, I would admit) to the current "GB" with spurs. averyj
I think the H could be in some old western serify font.Any of these would work:http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=106&am...&classt=pop You know, I rarely visit ccslsc anymore. I really should fix that.

vicfurth
Heh, maybe I should explain the use of the stars a bit more.If you look at the Gamblers original logo (which is actually very cool), you'll see a star on the helmet about where Houston would be...That's the reason for the stars on the poker chip. I wanted to include elements from the old logo other than just the colors.Love the comments. Keep 'em coming. I got a full script and unis coming soon... Sec19Row53
I like your concept, but here's what I'd work on:I'm not in love with the rounded H.The orange filler between the 'trunk' of the spade and the H seems too much - maybe just go with the outline and let eth background color come through? The junction of the H dn the bottom of the spade adds an additional angle to the logo that you could get rid of by re-doing the H -- either in a different font, a slightly different postiion of the H, or re-sizing the current H.Poker chips aren't generally "suited", so maybe just go with an H on the chip?I look forward to your script and unis. It's where I sit.

But after reading the above quote it gave me an idea. What about a hand of cards spread out like a fan with the words Houston Gambers written across it? Or even for an alternate logo. Just a thought. GypsyHunter
The chip idea is fantastic, but the font on the h is a bit simple. Just an opinion.
